Vista Laptop Programs play songs imperfectly

It's been a while since I have seen this discussed and I am not sure if it applies to my laptop.

I have a new ACER laptop with Vista and I just noticed that the programs that play music are marred with occasional blips, tics, and hiccups. This seems to be consistent with all softwares. I am planning to use this laptop, not only for Karaoke, but for dancing as well and I need all music players to be OK

Is this a hardware acceleration issue and how is this corrected in Vista?
Thanks

Here is a link to a site that I have sworn by for many years. The link will send you directly to the Vista page, but take time to read over the site. This guy is by far the best at this very situation. Clean out the crap, and you will be a happy camper.
