Plextor 708a

I'm having a problem with my px-708a. When I play a cdg disc in microstudio it stops about half way through a song or less. Same thing with importing. I can select audio cd and it will play as a wav file without a glitch. Already disabled auto insert for the drive XP service pack 2.
I also noticed in default drives my burner is shown twice, once as @ plextor dvdr px-708a 1.12 and E plextor dvdr px-708a 1.12. This happened once before with my 760a. After re-installing xp it worked ok for a few months. Has anybody else had this problem? Thanks, ronnie

What version of Microstudio?
There was a bug in one of the older versions that caused this.
I would also suggest following this FAQ to update your XP:

Did you do the Auto or Express Update or the Custom Update?
HAve you checked for firmware update from Plextor? I just found another update for my 760 dated Sept 2007 that I didn't have.

Don't know if Dale is out of pocket or not, but in the interest of time, you should do the updates again and use CUSTOM, not EXPRESS(AUTO). Microsoft only includes updates they deem important in the EXPRESS(AUTO) mode. Use CUSTOM and select them all.

Ok, I custom updated windows and the problem is still there. I did get one song to import and one to play clear through after 10 tries. It still stops half way through the song. Even tryed the slowest read speed.

Just figured out the problem with this drive stopping during playback. On the back of the uint there is a place for a DMA direct memory access?
I remembered having the same kind of trouble with a 16/10/40a with 3.14.
My 24/10/40a would play fine but the 16 kept stopping but gave me an error, something about sectors followed by a groop of numbers. I found a jumper and the drive now works fine and I also notice when the cd cues the drive spins fast and slows down before play back. Before placing the jumper is sounded like it was turning slow and took some time to cue.

Thanks for the help guys!
