external HD - how to rename it to a different letter

i have an internal plextor on desk top and hoster, i use this to import cdgs to external harddrive. the problem, when i hook-up extrnal HD to lap top the HD is not the same drive letter or name, thus hoster says the song path is incorrect and will not load. example on desk top drive is e:, but when installed on lap top the drive is D:. this is a usb external HD. any solution to this? i am not a computer expert.
