Burns to at least track 9, then stops between 10 & 15, saying bad media

My new Plextor PX712UF, in test mode and actually writing, always works fine burning through track 9. Then somewhere between 10 and 15 it just stops and gives me an error message.

It is obviously writing at 4X speed as it takes about a minute for each track to burn.

At the time it stops writing the Plextor "powers down" then stays there for a few seconds. Then it powers up and down several times in rapid succession before I finally get the error message.

Followed MTU's resolution procedure by defragging the drive and scanning for spyware. No improvement.

I doubt very much that the problem is the computer not providing data fast enough because it always works at least through track 9 and 4X is not that fast.

Am using MTU's disks and have used four different ones in testing. All had the same problem.
