Renaming or Editing the Songs/Record

I have two questions about MStudio. I am using 4.002

1. If I edit or rename a song and artist the change does not stay. When I cease work and shut down and come back later the old or original data is back. If I have to go back to the original folder on my drive to make changes why have the rename feature in the program. Or am I doing something wrong that the information is not retained??

2. Every time I turn on MStudio the record button is on. I can't turn it off until after my default folder loads. This was true in MStudio 4001 also. It's not a big deal to turn it off, just wondering why mine is always on. I know two other people with 4001 and this does not happen on their computers. Have I missed a setting or did mine just load buggy? The others say they did nothing special.

Thanks!

Need clarification

Are you saying that when you want to import the tracks and you try to dictate the names of the files that Microstudio isn't accepting your name?

Or when you change the name of an already existing file using windows, that microstudio doesn't recognize your change when it lists your file.

I've learned that the information that microstudio uses isn't in the file name, but that it is from some other source.

Also, when I am cutting and pasting names from a list to a cd that I want to import. (Assuming that Microstudio doesn't have the ID or it's a compilation disc) Sometimes, after I paste the info, it looks like there's no name where I put it, but the next time I click the cell, the name is indeed there.

1. What type of file are you renaming? An example would make it easier to see what you are trying to do. Are you using XP or Vista?
2. There are no settings to turn on or off the record feature. As I understand it the record is on all the time and any time you play a song it records it. If you do not save that recording at the end of the play then it records the next play over it. In other words it uses the same space in a temporary file unless you decide to keep it and then you have to give it a file name to save as. In other words it is there if you want it but if not ignore it.

Question Renaming or Editing Songs/Record

Thank you Jahern and ddouglas for your replies. I am sorry I did not make myself clear.

I am using MStudio 4002 on a pc with WinXP Pro, 300 + 200 gig hard drives with 1 gig Ram. My question does NOT relate to tracks that are imported, but rather to tracks that are listed from my default folder on my hard drive. I was reviewing that list and made changes to or correct some of the names or spacing and it appeared that MStudio accepted them. But when I reopened MStudio the next day the list is in its original form and none of the changes are there.

Based on what is happening I am guessing that MStudio cannot change the name of a file that resides in a folder on the hard drive. I suspected that might be the case since there is no place to click "save changes". Thus, I assume I will need to open windows explorer, go to the folder and file in question and make my changes there.

As to the record light being on I will just keep turning it off after my default folder loads or just ignore it, since as you say it will not hurt anything or take up space unless I name it and saveit. I just wondered why I start MStudio the record light is on but the same program on a friends computer does not.

Thank you both for writing.

Microstudio can only rename files on the hard drive. You can't rename them on a CD. Check to make sure the folder and or files are not set to read only. I will have to look at it when I get home as far as a save button...I believe it has an ok button which should do the same.

It was something like that, or since loading the 4002 update it is working. I am not sure what happened but I just realized it is now working. I am never know why it is, or why it wasn't. I am just glad it is now. Thanks!

If you open Microstudio, click on files, right click on title or artist you want to rename, click rename... rename the file in the box and click on rename at the bottom of the box, then click refresh button before you close Microstudio it should stay. However if you are renaming several files you should do them all before you refresh as it takes a while depending on the size of the files list
