Unhappy Error: 'Start DAO Recording'

Hello all,

Currently having a issue with burning with MStuido 2.6

I am getting the following message.

----------------------------------------------------
Error: 'TEST UNIT READY' command failed on device 1:1:0. Device contains no disc or is not ready. (04h 00h 02h 02h 3Ah 00h

or it might appear as:

Error: 'Start DAO Recording' command failed on device 3:0:0 Disc type is not supported.

ANALYSIS: This occurs with any of the DVD-/+R drives. This includes the Plextor PX-W708, PX-W712 Px-W716 DVD Recorder Models. Some users have seen this when installing some Printer software drivers.

SOLUTION: Remove Roxio EZ CD Creator 6 and Nero 6 or any other Burning program from starting at boot. Most of the time you can go into the programs settings and turn off the option to start the program at Windows Startup. These programs are known to cause this error.
----------------------------------------------

I have reviewd and followed the above information.

The operating system is XP and has been working with XP fine untill i installed Daemon Tools and Microsoft Office 2007 and Open Office 2.0

From my understanding Daemon tools might have had something todo with it, however I have uninstalled Daemon tools and I have also re-installed MStudio and still having the same issues.

I have un-installed Nero 7, still on the computer is clone cd and clone dvd

I have also tried to install ASPI drivers from Adaptec and Nero ASPI drivers.

Is there a solution that anyone has regarding the above, it would be greatly appreciated for a prompt response to point me in the right direction?

Thanks all in advance.

Shayne.

My first thought would be to say upgrade to Microstudio 3.004. One major gain is ASPI drivers are not needed with that version.

It maybe that Office 2007 or Open Office 2 may be doing the same things as Nero or Roxio do which is to try to control your drive from start up.
The first place to look would be in the Start-up folder of the program menu. Even though they start faster it isn't necessary for any of those programs to load anything on start up.
The second place would be the registry (don't delete unless you are sure) in the HKey_Local_Machine\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run.

Fixed

It's all fixed now, I did the following.

1. Disabled AnyDVD on the Plextor drive.
2. Removed CloneCD and CloneDVD from startup.
3. There was a entry still left in the Registry in common files for Nero "Even after it had been removed.

Rebooted computer, Open MStudio, Test "Works ok"

4. Re-install Nero 7 -- Reboot
5. Test MStudio. Working ok.

Thanks for your replys, I hope this thread may help others in the same situation.

Shayne.
