Sound acceleration

Can someone help explane why my sound acceleration level sometime jumps to it's maxium level. I then have to go to DXDIAG and reposition to a lower level to correct this.

When you change it in dxdiag do you save the setting change before closing dxdiag? If so look at your sound card software to see if it can be set through that as it maybe reseting it.
