Firmware, Software, Hardware?? Definitions and How To's Please

I'm reading messages about updating firmware to make burners work. I have not yet worked with these kinds of terms and I see a Plextor 708-A in my local store (They are just starting to include Plextor) Will I need to buy new firmware, or download it? etc. Can I get a summary of what is going on? Thanks.

Re: Firmware, Software, Hardware?? Definitions and How To's Please

Jahern,

Firmware are free updates that flash information onto the chip in the burner. They are downloaded direct from the manufacturers. I guess that's the burner manufacturer's way of correcting 'bugs". They generally tell you what issues the firmware upgrade deals with.

Hope this helps,

George
