Microstudio 2.314-2.315 reboots Win XP and 2000 Systems when program is run

This is a problem that we have not been able to reproduce at MTU. A very few users notice that when they run Microstudio 2.314 (and 2.315) on their Windows 2000 or XP computers, that it restarts Windows. Again, not everyone is experiencing this problem; only a very few.

Anyone having this problem should contact SUPPORT through our Help Desk to get the free required Microstudio 2.312 version. Please enter as many details about your problem and system as you can. Please run the DXDIAG report and paste it into your communication to help us document all the computers with this problem.

This problem only occurs when Microstudio 2.314 (and 2.315) is installed on a very few Windows XP or a Windows 2000 system. When you double click the Microstudio Icon the computer will flash a blue screen very fast and reboot.

Solution 1 (For XP ONLY)
  • Go to the Start Menu
  • Left click on Search
  • Type in microstudio.exe
  • Click Search Now
When the file is found do the following:
  • Right Click on the file name microstudio.exe
  • Left click on Properties
  • Click on the Compatability tab
  • Click the check box saying Set compatability mode
  • Set this to Windows 98/ME compatibility
  • Click Ok to apply this.

Solution 2 Windows 2000 or XP

1) It is assumed you already have installed Microstudio 2.314 (and 2.315) on your computer. If not, do so now and then restart your computer.

2) Go to the C:\Program Files\Micro Technology Unlimited\Microstudio Directory. Make a copy of Microstudio.exe and paste it into a different folder. To do this, right click on the filename, select Copy from the menu. Select the folder where you want the file to be copied, right click on the folder and select Paste. The file is copied to the new folder. Make sure there is a copy of the microstudio.exe file still in the c:\Program Files\Micro Technology Unlimited\Microstudio directory.

3) Click the Start Menu - Settings - Control Panel. Double click Add/Remove Programs. Find and click Microstudio. Click the Remove button to begin the removal.

4) The Installshield program will show three choices. Select the Remove option to uninstall Microstudio 2.314 (and 2.315).

5) REBOOT the computer NOW!

6) Install Microstudio Version 2.312.

7) Make sure that Microstudio 2.312 runs. If it says "ASPI Manager not found" then download the ASPI drivers from: http://www.mtu.com/vbulletin/showthr...p?threadid=493

8) Go to the folder where you saved the Microstudio.exe (Version 2.314 and 2.315) file in step 2.

9) Double click Microstudio.exe to run it. It should now open and run correctly without rebooting the computer.

10) Click the Help Menu - About Microstudio. It should show version 2.314 (and 2.315). If not, do the steps above again, correctly this time.

11) Copy the Microstudio.exe (version 2.314 and 2.315) file and Paste it into the C:\Program Files\Micro Technology Unlimited\Microstudio directory. This will overwrite the version 2.312 that is now installed there.

12) Remove the Microstudio.exe (2.314 and 2.315) program from the other directory where you temporarily saved it. It is best to only have one copy of this file and it should be in the C:\Program Files\Micro Technology Unlimited\Microstudio directory.

13) Your desktop Microstudio Icon will now run Microstudio 2.314 (or 2.315). Double click it to run Microstudio. Click the Help Menu - About Microstudio. It should show version 2.314 (or 2.315). If not, do the steps above again, correctly this time.

You are now up and running.

You should now be up and running under XP or 2000.
