Ddraw

I have the MTU microstudio - I cannot open the icon microstudio. The message I get when trying to open this icon is as follows:

"The microstudio.exe file is linked to missing export DDRAW.DILL:Direct DrawCreate.ex."

"C:\ProgramFiles\Micro Technology Unlimited\Microstudio\MicroStudio.exe. A device attached to the system is not functioning."

Can someone help me by explaining what a DDRAW is and how I can correct the problem?

Thanks, Clyde.

I believe the DDRAW.DLL is associated with Direct X 8.1a.

1. Do you have this version installed.
2. You can try running SFC to see if a file is missing or corrupted.
3. You might try re-installing Direct X 8.1a.

Clyde,

Ddraw IS part of DirectX 8.x and as kjzone said yours might be corrupted. Instead of reinstalling you might want to upgrade to DirectX 9.0.

You can download it from the Microsoft Web Site by clicking the following link:

Jon

Direct X 9.0 Upgrade.......

Would suggest before you do an upgrade to check to see if your current Video Card supports 9.0 or has specific drivers for this.

Good Point kjzone

Oooops, I forgot to mention the video drivers issue.

Here is a cut and paste from the Microsoft Web Site Q&A about DirectX 9.0

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. Should I need to update my audio or video drivers after installing DirectX 9.0?

A. While your existing drivers should be as compatible with DirectX 9.0 as they were with DirectX 8.1, you may need to update them to take full advantage of some of latest DirectX 9.0 enhancements.

You may find current drivers either at Windows Update or on the Web site of the company that manufactured your hardware.

Drivers available from Windows Update have been extensively tested and certified by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL.)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good luck.

Regards,

Jon
