How many unique songs in your songbook.
Often times when I do get a chance to visit other shows here in town the first thing I like to look for is the quality of the " others' " songbooks, as I take great pride in my own. A lot of books I see keep their "duplicate songs" in the book. I don't for my own reasons.
However, I was wondering how many "UNIQUE" songs most of us do get by with. A Unique song is described as a song with the same songname and artist. If you would, please count, or even estimate, your unique songs (not including any duplicates) and place a vote in the appropriate box.

Unique Songs
Last year I deleted my dups and now I have about 8000 songs. I took the time to listen to them and pick the best version and deleted the rest off the HD also. I probably deleted 500 dups. I had some songs on 5 different cds.

The poll asks for unique songs w/o dup's, you said you had 8,000, but you checked off 9,000 + ???

Forgot that last post, I see you checked off 8000, sorry for the error and dumb post, too.

Just shy over 10,300 as of last week. Went to my master, have 13,200 with dups. I am careful when I do buys not to get a disc that I already have the majority of the songs - unless it is an absolute MUST HAVE.

I do the same thing. Now I buy mostly new stuff monthly that comes out in Pop and Country, guaranteed uniqueness that way too.
I was estimating about 20 - 30 % duplicates in an average buyer's collection. You're right about there. ex. 2900 / 13,200 = 21.97% : Towards the low end, good. Anyone else wanna offer their duplicate % out of curiosity.

I have found that most of my customers appreciate the dups, because a lot of people like to sing certain manufactures.

That's interesting. I don't think once in three years someone has said "do you have the "so and so" version of so and so? Although, sometimes I've heard them say that "that wasn't the same version you played last week. Some customers just give me their name and song title and I look it up, and if I have more than one in the kma folder(although the songbook only contains one of each song)they sometimes notice if i happen to choose a different one from Hoster that they normally sing.

I do have one gal that will ONLY do Sound Choice versions - even if others may be better.

I get it all the time, and still if I have 5 of one song, someone will give me a disk because that is the version they like. Most of my singers are pretty hard core.

That's the reason why I noly keep one, because if they have their own, they'll bring it anyways. Most others don't care too much.

I have approx 22,000 without dups, 36,000 with dups. I hardly buy discs anymore with the exception of the latest pop and country monthlies & the occasional SC disc.
My songbooks also have no dups

I use KJ Pro 2.0
2 column artist 9pt lucinda. I tweak the upper & bottom margins to maximize the number of songs per page.

I have been doing this for 10+ years and I prob have had the question 10,000 times in them 10 years. I find it better just to put the good versions in the book and label them like I said above.

Kil, you're simply amazing. The math states that you have ppl questioning you about specific karaoke manufacturers 3 times a day, 7 days a week, year round for 10 years straight. maybe you only gig 2 or 3 times a week, then that becomes 10 times a gig every gig, WOW!! Unless you have ten new ppl every gig, asking that same question every time, that's hardly likely. I mean you must have some regular customers who must get sick of asking it over and over.
You're math is amazing, too. Remember, experience cannot replace education.

I have new singers at every gig. My system is well known in the Minnesota and Nothern Wisconsin area. So I get 30-60+ crowds at almost every gig. For you in your little Maine area where the gigs are not that big and you are unable to make very much money you just do not have the type of crowd I have. I know a few of the people that come back every week but I also have at least 10 or more new peple at every gig that next week. In Wisconsin which is a huge tourist area there are new people there ALL the time. Also you have what you have said switched around as well. Education can not replace experience. Not really sure what your problem is bryant and I have not once cut you down like you have in your last post torwards me. Only thing you have done is proved that you dont know math otherwise you could of figured out that 10,000/10=1000 and 1000/52 = 19.230 and 19.230/4 = 4.807 and that 4.807 does not equal 10.

rough estimation, no need to be precise here.
1000 a year divided by approx. 2 gigs x 50 (might miss a couple) = about 10 for 2/wk or 6-7 for 3/wk: you said six for three gigs/wk, pretty close actually. Must look at significant figures too.

I agree, I was the first one to state that education cannot replace experience. Will stick to that, too.
