lots of coasters, no cups..

am having problems doing disk copy..
trying to copy the DKKaraoke series (Edit-A-Vision)
have an Iwill KA-266 w/ Athlon 1.4, 256 meg of DDR, 2x30G 7200 rpm HDD's running in Raid0..
burner is a Yamaha 2100E (16-10-40)

have tried everything from auto speed all the way down to 1x..
keep encountering the same error..

error:'write' command failed on device 0:0:0
unrecoverable hardware error (04h 00h 02h 04h 08h 03h)

i know the setup i have works well, i've burnt at 16x running two instances of folding@home & winamp with Roxio's EZCD 5 and haven't ever had a problem with either audio or data copying..

what am i doing wrong?????

This Yamaha burner is known not to work correctly. This sounds like you might have a hardware error with the burner. The burner should work, but your graphics are going to be all distorted and broken up, this is due to the Yamaha drive.

I would try updating your ASPI drivers and see if this helps. You can do this from: http://www.mtu.com/vbulletin/showthr...p?threadid=493

thanx MTUSUPPORT
tried that already, was one of the first things i tried after browsing thru the forums a little more and seeing the "tech" section..

d/l'd and ran all 3 programs recommended in the other section and am running the latest..
i think i'm gonna have to go the Plextor route..grab one of their latest and greatest..
i've got 6 systems running here so what's one more piece of hardware right..

thanx again..DA

Another thing you might try is try to copy an Audio CD, instead of using the Karaoke button and see what happens, if this works it is something with your actual drive using the CD+G format, it is not accepting the switches.

The other thing to try is go to Yamahas website and update the firmware, maybe it will fix this problem.

I think its the burner!

I had the same burner and same problems. I got my plextor and now I burn up to 32x depending on the disk I buy. With my yamaha which was a 40x speed also I could only burn at 4x. Good Luck
