Using USB or Firewire Drives Under Windows 2000 or XP

NOTE: This is only for Windows XP and 2000. This doesn't apply to Windows 98 SE or ME!

This is how to make Microstudio 2.314 recognize an installed USB or Firewire drive under Windows 2000 or XP.

Do the following:

1) Click here to download the updated ASPI driver

2) When asked rather to "Save" or "Open" the file select "Save". This will bring up the "Save As" dialog. Browse to the C:\winnt\system32 directory. Then click the "Save" button to begin downloading this file.

NOTE: If you have an upgrade version of Windows 2000 or XP then the Directory will show c:\windows\system32 not C:\winnt\system32.

If there is a file by this name installed on your computer you will see the following: "C:\Winnt\Sytem32\wnaspi32.dll already exists. Do you want to replace it?" "Yes or No" buttons. Click "Yes". This will then download the file to your system.

Reboot the computer after dowloading this file.

3) Open Microstudio
4) Click the "Drives" menu
5) Click "ASPI Drivers" and select “Use the Default Driver” instead of "Use the MTU installed Driver".
6) Then close and reopen Microstudio and your USB or Firewire drive will show.
