Angry

I've just received 2.2 upgrade. I have windows 2000.
I've set auto notify off on the cd.. Beefed up the cache
Beefed up the virtual memory.. Installed directx 8.0
When I try to initiate the program, it goes to a process and uses 100 % of my cpu..

Any suggestions..

I would like to get this working as soon as possible

Thank You

How'd you turn auto-notify off in Win2K? I had to hack the Registry key for the CDROM driver to selectively disable autoplay for my HP 9210e. You can disable autoplay completely but I like autoplay on my other CD drive.

I didn't need to hack any cache or VM settings in Win2K to make any version of Microstudio work. Didn't even need DirectX 8.

ATAPI CD burners without DMA/UDMA capability are CPU hogs and even stupid things like moving the mouse could turn your CDR into a coaster. Try making sure you have DMA or UDMA enabled for your hard drive and burner, or if you can't enable it get hardware that supports it. SCSI is even better if you have a bus mastering SCSI adapter.

I had to run regedit also to disable the autorun on the cdrom..
Found the location on the Microsoft site.
Haven't tried the adapi driver yet on windows 2000 ...
I'll try that and let you know what happens

This is exactly what happened to me. Was hoping to find a fix here.

OK, I fixed it. It was as simple as running ASPI32.EXE again to update the Adaptec SCSI drivers.

With Microstudio V2.303, we did some tests on our Installation Guidelines (VCache, etc.). We used a Pentium 166MHz, 64MB RAM (REQUIRED!), a 7200rpm IDE hard drive with DMA enabled in the Control Panel/System icon, Windows ME, a 16x Plextor MTU Certified CD Burner, and all our guidelines removed... except Auto Insert Notify. We were able to burn at 16x with no problems; 8 discs in a row.

For Windows 2000 Professional, you don't need to even disable Auto Insert Notify as it is a "real" multi-tasking operating system, unlike the 95-98-ME versions. Our new Installation program for Microeditor now detects what Windows version is on the computer. For 95-98-ME, the Installation guidelines call for 64MB of RAM in your computer, and only disable Auto Insert Notify. No Installation guidelines appear when the OS is Windows 2000 or NT.

Remove all the changes you made to Windows 2000. That should help return your performance. Be careful. You are deep in the guts of Windows 2000, and it was not designed for anyone to go in that far. I do applaud your hard work to make these changes, and regret to tell you to undo them.
