Unhappy Illegal KJs

What Do you do about illegal KJs. I have several in my area now who work for half, or less. than the test of us. one in perticu is running out of his laptop with what looks like winamp. MP3+g about 3500 songs. and i know him personaly. he owns no disc. all are bought from another KJ who sells copys . he is cutting everyones throat. hes a part timer. I make my living at it. What to do? dont want to see him get in trouble. But also dont want to lose what i have built.

What you have discribed is utterly blatant and WAY off the deep end and needs to be stopped. While I can't honestly claim that I have always been above-board and squeekie clean in all my dealings, this is going WAY too far.

I know that you don't want to get him in hot water, and while I admire the your concern for your fellow human being, you also have your own financial well-being to be concerned with.

My Advice: Try to talk some sense into him. If he won't listen, talk to the owner of the club. When they hear what can happen to them, they will usually do something about it.

If that fails ..... well ..... You gotta do what you gotta do.
(Expect repercussions though).

That's the guy that needs the going after. Without the likes of him your problem wouldn't exist. If you were to nail the one you're focused in on, another would pop up in his place as long as the KJ who's selling copies exists.

Unhappy selling copys

The sad part is this guy was caught once, laughed and said they did nothing to him but they made him join S.P.I.N. he dosn't use copys anymore as far as i know. but he will sell anything you want. such as foundation 1. $200.00 he now uses SC disc only. and will copy all you want. isnt that a laugh. sells to all his singers . Illegal KJs

S.P.I.N stop pirating internationaly now. my understanding is it was started by sound chioce to go after kjs who use copys. 1 disc 2 syst. ect. they reduced him from 4 syst to 1 syst. and i was told he isnt even suposed to have that one.??

This seems to be a major problem in all parts of the world.

There seems to be no way round it from putting people out of business.

The same applies to DJ'ing more and more mobile dj's are using filesharing programs to build up their libarys where as us real dj's have to buy our own original cds with our hard earned cash !!

No fair is it ??

I know this is an old thread, but, since then, is there something we can do to stop these illegal, pirating s.o.b's, who are cutting into us legitimate Kj's? Chartbuster and Soundchoice both have sites to call or submit to, but you don't hear back from them.

Hey All,
Just a note from the UK.
As a part time KJ/singer who mainly specialises in private functions as opposed to bars etc. I have built up a good haul of legit CDG's over the years, having, complete collections from most of the BIG players in the industry, and costing mega bucks.
Of late I have had people GIVE me DVD's containing every kind of karaoke disc, mainly in the MP3+G format
These guys don't see anything wrong in downloading or sharing their collections, they've been doing it for years, from school even, sharing and copying tape cassettes, videos and CD's.
It's part of life to them and they don't do it for profit.
Most of them sing at karaoke, the odd one does a karaoke show now and then, for peanuts.
The point I am making is that these guys don't see that they are hurting the genuine KJ, it's all a bit of fun to them.
But there are so many dishonest KJ's out there anyway, working for unscrupulous club owners that on the whole karaoke is looked upon as par with strip joints and tattoo parlours.
One club I attended recently, which has been putting artistes and karaoke on for years, turned out to not even have a music license when the police raided over Health and Safety issues.
I also saw a couple of items on Ebay recently for Karaoke players with 35000 song data bases (discs not supplied), enough said.
I am afraid it's all around us, mainly brought about by the exorbitant prices charged by disc producers/suppliers and the attitude of the industry in general.
Regards from across the pond.
Garry

Talking Reda Lou

I'm with you....I finally gave up. Went all the routes you did and nobody seemed to care. I had a bar owner buy his own player and then someone made him copied cdg's and he paid someone $50.00 bucks to run the karaoke. I was angry and called all the appropriate people with no success. I now laugh because he recently called me to come and work for him and use his equipment....for a whole $75.00 a night....wow aren't I the lucky one...

Hey All,
Reda lou sums the whole situation up,
It stinks!!!!
All the people who should care don't.
If anyone gets caught it's unfortunate, so why bother.
There is no support for legit guys and no defence against the rip off boys.
So make what you can or get out of the game.
Regards from across the pond.
