Import problem

Good afternoon everyone,

I have been using MStudio 4.002 on my Vista Home Premium machine and was having difficulty importing and converting some discs. I was able to import them with Hoster but the discs have quite a bit of age on them and they didn't look very good at all, so I thought I would try using MStudio because it has the error correction capability.

When I try to import with MStudio I tell it that I want the .bin which I will later convert to KMA using songverter. I tell it to read the disc which it does, then I select all of the tracks give it a disc ID and then hit Import selected tracks.

The Drive fires up and the dialog like in Hoster comes up saying it is importing track 01, 02, etc. The thing is that it only takes about 2 seconds to do the import where in Hoster some of these took substantially longer.

When I go to try to play the imports in either MStudio or Hoster I get the singer screen for about half a second and then nothing. I have tried upgrading both Hoster to 3.116 and MStudio to 4.004 but it didn't change anything. I'm a little leary of going to 3.117 because I have no other problems with 3.116 and I don't think it has anything to do with the problem.

I tried upgrading the Plextor drive (which worked perfectly with Hoster) to the latest firmware (1.07 to 1.09) and also tried using my old Plextor 52/24 CD-RW and and the Lite-On Drive with no change.

I looked around through the Forum but I'm terrible with searches and didn't find anything in particular about this problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I built this computer myself and here are the specs:
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-M55plus-S3G (rev 1.0)
Processor: AMD X64 3800 AM2 Single Core
Memory: 1024 MB Kingston DDR2 533 Dual Channel
Video: Radeon X1300 DVI-D w/ TV-Out
Drives: 500 GB Western Digital Caviar SATA 3
250 GB Seagate IDE
Disk Drives: Lite-On LH16 D1P DVD-ROM
Plextor PX-712A DVD-R/W
Windows Vista Home Premium X64

How bad are these disc.
are they org or copys, can you see through them , are they scratched?.
are the lables intact.
try cleaning them with a good cleaner.
i use nufinish auto polish (no grit) and it fills in the scratches. Bob

Tried most of those already

They are originals. Sound Choice and Music Maestro mostly.

I used NuFinish Scratch Doctor on all of them and that allowed me to get all but three of them into Hoster in the first place.

I am at a loss on this.

I'll try waxing them again and see if that helps.

Appreciate the response

I gather from your post that the problem started with the 4002 installation, and you've not been able to import at all. If that's the case:

Make sure Windows is up to date.

http://www.update.microsoft.com/wind....aspx?ln=en-us

Use CUSTOM, not EXPRESS, and be certain to get NET FRAMEWORK. The newer Microstudio versions require it.

MS Updates

I check monthly for all updates on all of my systems and always do custom. I use Microsoft Update instead of Windows Update so it covers all of my MS programs.

Just checked for the odd chence and there was nothing for this machine.

This is messing with my head.

Have you tried making a diskcopy first and then import from the copy?
Try playing the tracks from the original by using the cd button on the playlist and try playing from there.
Also try importing a few of them as audio to see if that's working.

Are you sure you have .NET FRAMEWORK installed?

Thanks for the ideas.

I don't know why I didn't think to make a copy first and see if it might work that way. I'll try that and let you know.

I don't believe they are MediaCloq discs. They are nearly a decade old. Sound Choice Spotlights SC8102 through SC8262 missing some here and there.

And unless Windows isn't telling me something I have the latest .NET framework and the service pack updates. My installed programs is set to show updates. It's a bit different with Vista than I am used to with XP. I can't see anything about .NET but the Microsoft Update site shows that I have nothing available to be installed in either custom or high priority.

Well DOWNLOAD it and see if it makes a difference. If you have it, no harm will be done. If you don't, you need it to run Microstudio 4002. You can't assume you have all the necessary updates just because windows doesn't see a need in your pc. That's why I linked you to the .NET FRAMEWORK download page.

2.0 was already there. Trying 3.5

I misunderstood you earlier George. My fault.

I tried to download and install 2.0 from your post (thanks for that by the way) I had to dig around to find the 64 bit version but when I went to install it the system said it was already there with the Operating System and it cancelled the install.

I am currently installing version 3.5 to see if that helps.

I will let you know how it turns out.

Nothing to feel bad about.

It must not be that, then.

I believe all that's required is version 1.1 or higher.

.NET 3.5 no help either

3.5 didn't change anything. Still the same.

I even tried a disk that was in very good condition and it did the same thing. When I check the BIN Files in the folder they show as 0 bytes. It won't even play directly from a disc. It reads it and shows the titles I click the one I want to play, the black lyrics screen pops on for a split second but it doesn't do anything else.

Basic troubleshooting now tells me that it isn't the discs (tried with several brands and ages) it shouldn't be Windows (all the updates are there and it didn't work with the two .NET Framework types but I'm not ruling it out completely) The burner works perfectly with Hoster and isn't on the "doesn't work for this program list" not to mention I tried three other models and finally MStudio is updated to the latest version (4.004).

And banging my head on the keyboard is clearly not helping though the tattoo of the letters G H J does look kinda cool.

Do you have any other burner software such as Roxio Easy CD Creator installed that might be interfering?

It has been known to happen.

Monolithent,
I think you are just going to have to face it that the condition of these disks are going to prevent you from importing them. Sound Choice uses some of the cheapest and worst disks made. They are too thin (layered) and too transparent to work right to begin with. Then when you add the age and condition you are really in trouble. No program of software update can over come these conditions at that point.

Apparantly they are not all old, beat up discs.

Maybe you got a corrupted download. Uninstall Microstudio, download a new .exe file and install it. See if thsat makes any difference.

The only burning capability I have with this particular machine is only what comes with windows. No Roxio or Nero or anything like that.

Ddouglass, like I said, I tried with several different brands and types (believe me I know about SC and their media) but it didn't make a difference on any of them. I tried with the newest and shiniest discs I have and it did the exact same thing as all the others.

I will try a reinstall per your suggestion George and see if that helps.

Reinstall didn't help either

So here's where this stands.

I went out and bought a brand new disc from a local dealer, threw it in tried to import it. Same as all the rest.

Per George's suggestion I first tried an update (just found out about 4.005) which didn't change anything. Then being a bit more bold I uninstalled MStudio and rebooted my machine. Did a fresh install from a fresh download (saved to my computer) from MTU, rebooted per requirements in the install software. Tried again and still the same.

Does anyone know where the MTU ASPI drivers can be located? Reason I ask is because the burner is firing up but then seems to stop when it should be reading the disc. A new driver might help at this point. Worse case I am no further along than I am now.

This is frustrating. I'm not giving up but my keyboard will need replacing soon from the beating its taking. Maybe a nice one, wireless, yeah, with multimedia controls and a card reader, yeah that would be nice.

gotta learn to control the inner monologue.....sorry

Downloaded and installed CDRWin demo from GoldenHawk.

Put in a good disc and set it to copy. It analyzed the Disc layout then analyzed audio subcode (all the way through to 100%) then it gave me...

Error Unable to create file "C:\CDRWINXX.CUE"

Any idea what theat means? From what I remember it has something to do with the Graphics information on the track.
