Other Software?

When you say "other software" are you talking about programs that play graphics or are you just talking about listening to the audio files?

If it is a recent version of Microstudio have you gone to the Microsoft website and downloaded .NET FRAMEWORK ?

This is not a comparison that will determine the cause because playing just audio is totally diferent from playing audio and video at the same time. This requires more processor time and memory.
You obviously (from your answers to George) have never updated your Windows from Microsoft's website. Here is what you must do:

Updates are found at http://www.update.microsoft.com/micr....aspx?ln=en-us

IMPORTANT NOTE: You MUST use Windows Internet Explorer to gather your updates. You CANNOT use any other Browser (Netscape, Firefox, Opera, etc.).
1. When the page above appears, click on the Custom button. Your computer will be scanned for what updates are not installed.
2. In the left column, select all items under Optional Software.
3. Then, click on Install to start the installation.
4. Once the updates are installed, if you see a message to restart the computer, you must do this before continuing.
5. Then go through the same process again until it shows 0 items to be installed.

This is necessary to keep Windows current, so it will work with programs you install.
