Laptop needs ???

I am new to wanting a laptop for shows. I am a very expierenced DJ and KJ. I have always used discs... I want to buy a laptop and download my collection (about 10000 songs) to a hard drive. Here is what I need to know, I'm hoping to spend less then 1200 on a laptop...

I have about 10000 Karaoke songs
figure 1000 Dj songs
I want to run Hoster (think I need a Svideo out) I have the Rf Mod.

What do you think I should need for Harddrive space (40, 60, or 80 gig)?
What speed min for a processor???

Please advise ASAP...

Re: Laptop needs ???

For 10,000 karaoke songs you will need about 62 gigs of drive space depends on what compresion you use, 1,000 DJ Songs about 5 gigs of space. plus whatever other programs you have on computer.
I have a 40 gig hard drive in my laptop with about 3000 dj songs, and a 200 gig ext drive for my karaoke songs 16000.
i use a dell laptop 1 gig proses, 512 megs of ram windows xp pro, hoster runs like a dream, TV out is what i use. came with laptop also duel display. Bob

Re: Laptop needs ???

I would go no less than 512 Ram. If I run 256 I cannot use CD's that someone brings me and hoster at the same time. and Every thing seems to run slow. I also have a 900 processor. Its ok I am looking to upgrade. I think if you have a minimum of 1 gig processor. and atleast 512 Ram youll be ok I would just get a 120 gig or 180 gig HD thought you may want to add things later and for the money might as well just go big now.

GO BIG OR STAY HOME! LOL

Bought a Desktop to KJ/DJ with...

Here is what I bought! I got it from a friend that was going to get into Video editing... Guess how much he sold it to me for.... He said he bought it last year... It is a Desk top.. Just one more thing for me to haul in I guess... I'm sure this Video card will work with Hoster right? Now I need to buy and learn how to use hoster.

Any idea of how long it will take me to load about 450 Karaoke discs into hoster?

Does it have to be online when doing so?

Re: Laptop needs ???

Well Nice machine!! I don't think the video card makes that big of difference. Unless you r doing a large venue and need the out puts for other tv's?? The SOUND card is where you will want to upgrade. From what I can tell the Audigy 2 seems to the popular choice.

Have fun!

Re: Laptop needs ???

The Video card is Key for Hoster. This card should work, but may not work for long with Hoster. This is an older Card from Nvidia, and they have quit supporting updated Drivers for this chipset, from what I have heard. It should work fine currently, but future versions it will not support the DirectX, I am sure.
