Plextor Burner Won't Record

When we bought our MTU Suite 2 years ago, we also purchased the Plextor CDG Burner with it. Over time, the MTU Suite has had to be reinstalled several times, because MicroStudio Icon fails to open the program -- as does all components of the MicroStudio Suite. (Dunno why this happens, but I digress).
After one recent episode, when MTU failed to open as requested, I once again reinstalled the Microstudio Suite. Now, when I try to record CDGs, the Plextor burner, which has never before given me any problems, will refuse to finish the recording. Somewhere in the middle of the recording, I will hear the error message .wav, and then a little screen appears to inform me that a "Write Command Failed: Bad Medium Or Disc". Now, I know that there are bad discs out there, but never this many! And these same discs work perfectly well in my regular CD burner, for audio CDs.
Any thoughts?????

Re: Plextor Burner Won't Record

Most likely it has turned off the DMA on the IDE controllers.

You can fix this by doing the following:

1) Right Click on the My Computer Icon. Left Click Properties.

2) FOR XP or 2000 Users: Left click the Hardware Tab then Left click the Device Manager button.
FOR 98SE or ME Users: Click the Device Manager Tab

3) Left click the + beside IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers

4) Double click on Primary IDE Channel. Left click on the Advanced Tab. Make sure that both Device 0 and Device 1 have the Transfer Mode set to DMA if available. It this is set to PIO Only, then it can cause this error.

5) Now do the same as above, but for the Secondary controller as follows. Double click on Secondary IDE Channel. Left click on the Advanced Tab. Make sure that both Device 0 and Device 1 have the Transfer Mode set to DMA if available. It this is set to PIO Only, then it can cause this error.

6) Reboot your computer and make sure these settings correctly changed.

If this is now correct, try burning a disc again in Microstudio and see what happens.
