Angry error write command failed

I have tried everything to burn a cd from the hard drive. I did it a long time ago, so I know it is possible. Recently I had to reinstall the software and now I just can't get it to write a cd.
I went to the forum for help and did everything it said.
I am running windows 98.
I have a HP 8200 plus, which does read and write cdgs.
i loaded the lastest aspi driver on your site.
i removed the adaptec software.
I shut off auto insert notification.
I enabled dma.
I made sure sync data transfer was on.
i am running version 2.314.
I ran scandisk and defrag.
i continue to get the same error: error write command failed on device 1:0:0. Read/write error on bad medium detected. 04h oo4 02h 03h 73h 03h
I have the current version of aspi drivers.
Please help, i have wasted at least 6 disks trying to get this to work.
I know it is possible. I have made two disks last February.

1. What speed are you trying to burn at? 1x, 2, 4x, 8x, etc.
2. What Brand and X Speed of CD-R are you using?
3. Are you using MicroStudio or Goldenhawk? (the error message you are getting is typical of Goldenhawk)
4. Go on the Internet and search for a small program called "ASPI Version Checker" download and run it. With Win98 you should see 4 Files all version 4.60 ASPI Drivers.
5. Go to your C: Directory and look at the "AspiLog.TXT" file. See if it is empy or has some information in it. If Blank I have attached the AspiLog.TXT file you should Copy and Paste to your C: Drive.
6. Re-Boot your computer and re-try.

Want you to try this:

1. Go to your C: drive and Copy and Paste your AspiLog.Txt to say "My Documents" OR Somewhere else you know where it is.
2. Then go to your C: drive and delete the AspiLog.Txt file.
3. Download the AspiLog.Txt file I attached above and Copy and Paste to your C: Drive.

IN OTHERWORDS WE ARE TRYING MY ASPILOG.TXT FILE, SINCE I AM ALSO USING WIN98.

RE-BOOT YOUR COMPUTER AND SEE IT IT NOW WORKS.

IF NOT, YOU CAN THEN DELETE THE ONE I SENT YOU AND COPY AND PASTE YOUR ORIGINAL BACK TO YOUR C: DRIVE.

Did you use the ASPI drivers at this link in the forums? They are the latest ASPI drivers for Microstudio. You need your email address and install code to install them. Ignore that they appear to be for USB burners, they are for internal burners as well.

If you used this one, or even the other one for that matter, did you think to go into the program and change from default to MTU drivers? That's an easy step to overlook.

The second message in this post has the ASPILOG.TXT FILE,

JUST LEFT MOUSE CLICK AND DOWNLOAD TO YOUR DESKTOP,

DELETE YOUR CURRENT ASPILOG.TXT FILE ON YOUR C: DRIVE AND

COPY AND PASTE THE ONE YOU DOWNLOADED TO YOUR C: DRIVE

If I understand you correctly, you deleted your old AspiLog.Txt and Copied and pasted the downloaded AspiLog.Txt to your C: Drive.

Then re-booted your computer.

You also, used a different Brand of Disc.....if so What Brand?

Another thing I want to you do, after your re-boot your computer is to hit your Control and Alt and Delte Bottons to open up your CLOSE PROGRAM box. Close all programs that are open except SYSTRAY AND EXPLORER.

THEN RE-TRY THE BURNING........

YOUR PROBLEM COULD STILL BE YOU JUST HAVE A BAD BATCH OF CD-R'S.....THAT IS WHY I ONLY USE MTU'S SILVER DISCS WITH IS MADE BY MITUSI.

ALL DISCS ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL.

ALSO, YOU CAN TRY "GEORGE'S SUGGESTION" GO TO THE MTU LINK AND DOWNLOAD THEIR CURRENT ASPI DRIVERS.

Let's check this:

1. Go to My Computer.
2. Clink on Properties
3. Select Device Manager
4. Click on CD-Rom
5. Double click on the HP 8200 Drive
6. Go to the setting Tab.
7. Under Options.
Disconnect should be checked
Sync data transer should be checked
Auto Insert should be UN-CHECKED
DMA should be checked for IDE, (USB OR SCSI won't have a DMA)

ALSO THERE IS A FIRMWARE VERSION....WHAT IS IT?

Your error message indicates bad CDR media!!!!!

The fact that you can write at all says your ASPI driver is fine.

The error message is saying you have bad media. Imation is not CDR media we would normally recommend. CDR places more demands on media than standard CDROM or CD-DA audio.

You are beating a dead horse without good media. Not to be too comercial, but that is why MTU sells our MTU Silver CDR media... to insure you don't run into this type of error and back and forth try this. no try this, no try this that is so futile.

Try some Sony media that you might find locally if you don't have any MTU media.

Admin is correct about the imation, I have a couple of spools here that I tried to use, thought my computer was messing with me (same error code) until I went back to Sony and Fuji, and all backed up OK.

Try other media!!!!!
