unexpected aspi error on 2.517

Each time I try to duplicate a cdg, the original cdg is read successfully; however, upon writing to the blank cdr, the program locks up somewhere in the middle of the write process (between track 10-12). The first few times I had to use my pc's restart button because there was no response (not even cnt alt del would shut anything down) The next couple of times it froze up while trying to write I decided to leave it for awile (half hour). Eventually, an error message read: error "write" command failed on device 1:0:0 Unexpected ASPI error (04h 00h 00h). I have only been able to successfully write very short (4-5 song) cdgs without having this problem.

I have:
win98se
128 ram
microstudio 2.517
driver v1.2
Plextor px-708a external dvdr cdr
Auto insert notification is off
use mtu installed driver is selected

Do you know what version of Direct X you have installed ? Microstudio 2.517 requires version 9.0.

To check this, click Start, Run, and type in DXDIAG

Near the bottom of the first page, it will tell you which version you have.

If anything less than 9.0 you can download 9.0 free from the Microsoft Website. There's a link to the download site in the Microstudio Manual under Computer Requirements.

Also, in addition to Auto Insert Notification being off, it is recommended with 98SE that DMA be on, Sync Data Transfer on, and screen savers be off.

DMA and Sync Data Transfer can be found on the same screen where you shut Auto Insert Notification off.

Don't know if this will help or not, but they are all recommended with 98SE.

Take care,

George

I've determined that I have DirectX 8.1. I clicked on the link in the microstudio manual under system requirements for the free download but the version was the same as what I have (8.1). I looked further and found a directx 9.0; however, the size of this download was huge. Since it was going to take 15 hours to complete, I clicked cancel. I am turning my screen saver off and will try again. My dial up connection window keeps popping up repeatedly for no reason, I click cancel and it comes right back. Is there any way to stop that and could it have an effect on writing discs?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Darwin

Darwin,

Sory about that link. You can get DirectX free from the Microsoft website. It's usually the first one listed after you click Downloads. As I recall it was aboud 166,000-kilobytes or so. That needs to be done.

Not saying it is, but anything popping up like your dial up screen is doing could very well interfere with burning cdg's. Thats the reason for screen savers, etc to be off. You may have to get with your provider on that one. They usually are cooperative on walking you through diagnostics to correct errors in configuration. After all they want your business.

Take care,

George
