Uh... that was NOT my advice.

I said those who are experiencing the problem should roll back to 3.312.

We have an excellent Beta Testing team that beats us to death until we get everything down. Sometimes, for MTU reasons, we must do a release with a known bug still in it. Gee.... and Microsoft had how many million bugs in Windows?

Beavis, if you always wait for the "second next" release to come out, you are still running with bugs that were fixed in the next release.

Read the bugs we fixed in 3.313 that were reported in 3.312. All those who reported them are very happy with 3.313, and as you can see in this post, there many who don't see your problem. The VAST MAJORITY of users are running fine.

The problem reported in this thread is a SYSTEM RELATED BUG. It is clear it is a bug, but it is also clear that only a very few are experiencing it. Those of you who are, yes, roll back to 3.312 as for you it is an unacceptable bug.

But Beavis... get outta here with your "don't upgrade" advice! If everyone followed that, we'd never find problems like this one.

As kilith clearly restated the same thing I had stated earlier, we need facts. Everyone, read your posts. EMOTIONS... EMOTIONS... EMOTIONS. No facts. Stop the "agreeing with each other" posts that waste everyone's time, and post whatever facts you can bombard us with (we NEVER have too many facts). Then, maybe from the cumulative set of facts a picture will become clear where to look.

Hoster 3.314 will be the next project we are on in 2007. If we don't have any facts from those of you who are experiencing the problem, it won't be fixed in 3.314 either! The NEXT release will be Hoster 4.0, which will be many months off. I hope that's enough incentive to get you to post your facts!

OUCH !!!

i guess im not getting hoster 4.0 in my stocking this year

sorry admin. i guess im just one of those guys that has an iron clad machine for a computer.

i will upgrade and post my results after the first of the year.

i like to get your blood pumping every now and then admin

see what you got me in bryant JK

Even though I have not seen any of the problems everyone else is facing... I did roll back for the mean time to 3.312. I still have tried everything I could to produce the problems everyone else is having and I just can not repeat them (guess I am a one of the lucky ones ).

I could make it crash but I was doing it in a very mean way lol... I would play a song and then put Madden 07 back up over the top and that would crash Hoster lol however I know no one would be doing something like this at one of their shows (or at least I hope they would not rofl )

And yeah peeps upgrade to the new versions... push them to the limits you can and see what you can find wrong with them. Not every beta test can catch everything. They do not have every type of computer out there with all the different configs of sound cards, video cards, processors, windows configs, hard drives, and any other software/hardware you use in your computers. That is why it is VERY important to thoese who are having the problems find out your exact video card, sound card, processor, ect ect and post that in your posts... It has to be a hardware related problem that I know I can not create. You all could have NVIDIA cards and see we would not know that because you are not telling MTU. If you remember in a post in the past they had problems with some NVIDIA cards.

Bryant lol he just ment to skip ever .*13 version as in the number 13 is an unlucky number lol however it is one of my lucky numbers haha go figure I would have no problems with 3.313

With my post it does help the admins cause they see in my sig what type of computer I am running on and know that computer config it works

Later

That is very untrue since I see you do not read others posts. Some of these people have brand new Dell laptops running a Duo Core 2 Processor which are much faster then my processor. They also said they have 2 gigs of ram... that is more then I have and They are having the problems.

Ever think that computer can change or people do upgrade? Yes I know some of these people changed nothing but if you do not know what they have that others don't it makes the job that much harder.

It is nice you have been in contact... does not mean everyone else has been that has this problem.. You alone is not going to fix this problem it is going to be everyone's imput that is having the same problem. This post also was never directed at you either... it was directed to the whole forum.

good little boy? That is pretty offensive to be called a boy since I am a 30 year old man who has programming knowledge and computer knowledge and is trying to help point people in the right direction. The admin only said they needed more information from everyone... he never did state what type of info. People just kept repeating over and over what they were experincing and nothing more.

No I did not tell you what the admin said I went more in depth to help people that might not understand what they might be looking for. Ever call a computer tech line? They make you feel stupid because they are suposed to treat everyone the same... as if that person on the other side of the line knows nothing about computers.

I guess no I would not know if it was sent in other ways... I can only see what is in the forums... If it has been sent in other ways then that is a good thing... but since you do not know if it has been or not and you want the problem fixed you should be trying to help push people in the right direction as well.

Never said it was better then yours. I only stated that the admin knows it works on my type of machine however if it is better no it is not... someone who actually has the problem posting what I have would be better... I just rule out one type of computer and nothing more. I might be new to the forums but I am experienced in programming and also have a degree in computer infromation systems.

I only see the people complaining and not helping. They say the same things over and over and then I see the admin say the same thing over and over. Yes it does seem some people do not get it. Just because they can run Hoster at a karaoke gig does not mean that they are good at what their computer has in it. It is easy to hook up your computer to the internet and download/install a program... that does not mean they know what they have in their machines. The admin was not specific what should be put in the posts... I just suggested what some of the people should post (that do not have the privilege to be in the close forums like you do)

I was explaining more in depth on what might help out the admins. Sorry, if you are in direct contact with them... does not mean the others are. Did I ever say my post was better then yours? No I said

I said it helps more then someone just saying they have a 256meg video card and 1 gig of ram... knowing what type (NVIDIA, ATI) helps knowing how much ram it has does not unless they know the brand.. however Hoster does not require high end graphics cards...

First and foremost Mr. Moore this would have been a good place to start
Information To Give MTU When Requesting Help

the reason they changed the code was to be able to run on slower system's/other video cards

and to your other point about posting info most of the people that have the problem are long time user's/ so some wear along the way I am sure mtu has had there info MTU doesn't keep any records concerning anyones computer system

and for me I have been in touch with the programmer on this problem and why should I post it again just so you can see Because someone with some experience might spot a pattern and suggest a course of action - it wouldn't be the first time
what good is that going to do
and have sent them kma's that are dealing with the other problem

so you telling us the same thing that admin just said is a waste of our time to read your post made it sound like you are a good little boy and the It looked more to me that Killith was expanding on Admins request for more info, not just repeat it. And besides if you didn't care for his post you could have ignored it instead of creating one as long just to say you don't like it
rest of us are stupid !!!!

just because you don't see it in the open forum does not mean is has not been sent in other ways

admin sorry for the post but we dont need some one telling us why there post is better then ours when they dont know all the facts
Per Admins request for information I'm gathering information on my 4 computers from DXDIAG and hope to post them shortly.

Sam

That is a requirement for us to fix this type of problem.

SO... let's see some posts of...

* What other programs are running

* What Windows you are running

* etc....

When enough folks experiencing this problem post facts about their system, then a pattern will start to evolve. We have solved this type of problem before with this technique. Also, someone might post that little tid-bit they almost didn't, and it turns out to be the key that solves the puzzle.

Here is the DXDIAG info for the system and graphics for 4 computers all having slow redraw problem

I would also note that on my 4 machines I get the slow redraw on all KMA types (HDCDG etc) as well as ZIPS and MP3G's played from the MP3G tab.
I do not have the problem while playing WMA or MP3 music from the "audio" tab, nor do I have the problem while playing videos that are WMV Mpeg MPG or AVI (These are the only kinds I have).

My symptons have generally just been the slow redraw when closing the database search or file folder. I have not experienced any audio drops or problems with the lyrics on the TV - In fact I slid an open folder over to the TV and closed it and did not have any negative effects at all with the lyrics.

I have had this happen with all prior versions of Hoster when closing a VIDEO, AUDIO or MP3G tab, but now it is a little bit more pronounced.

The first two computers have all the resource reducing recomendations listed in the manual (Troubleshooting Audio Drops) - implemented.
My second two computers have none implemented.

I have no other programs running and nothing running in the background that I can detect.

Sam, would you post what your virtual memory settings are? The amount is listed but it doesn't tell you whether it variable controlled by XP or set to a constant amount. Also what settings do you have on the Performance tab?

Mindonstrike,
I noticed all of the operating system specs show you are using windows xp service pack 1. This indicates you have not updated windows to all of the present updates. Could this be the problem??

Here is my DXDIAG. Not sure if that will help to compare mind on strikes DXDIAG to mine to see what could cause the problem. I thought it might help however.

Now we're getting somewhere. Thanks Mindonstrike and Gduns for getting folks info that they can use, instead of my just asking for info. To run Dxdiag:

Click the START menu

Left click RUN

Type in DXDIAG, and click OK.

At the bottom, click the "Save All Information" button, and remember where you save it.

Exit Dxdiag.

Using Windows Explore, find the saved DxDiag.txt file and double click it to open it in Notepad (or whatever your .txt is assigned to open with), or right click it and choose "Open With >" and select Notepad.

Copy all the text and paste it in a post in this Thread. You can edit out any private data you don't want seen before clicking the Submit button.

I noticed that. A couple of weeks ago I connected my show machine to MS and told them to install sp2 and they did install something, but apparently it was not sp2.
The Dell Laptop does have sp2 on XP Home

Dale I'll get back to you on the virtual memory info.

I'd like to see someone post with a Shuttle purchased from MTU (mine are slightly upgraded versions of the same) who is NOT having the problem.

Sam

POSSIBLE SOLUTION!

Gduns and Ddouglass made a suggestion in the Beta Testers Forum that I think is the answer. My system was having no problems, and I changed my page file size and now I AM seeing the same problems you all are. When I changed it back, it is still exhibiting the slowness, so I'm signing off, rebooting and will test again. I suspect this requires rebooting after you change the setting.

Click Start > Settings > Control Panel > System (scroll down) > Advanced Tab > Performance section (click Settings button) > in Performance Options dialog, click Advanced > in Virtual Memory section, click Change button > Custom Size radio button > enter (this is a wild guess) 1.5x your total computer RAM in the first field and 3x in your second field > Click OK > OK > OK.

REBOOT YOUR COMPUTER before running Hoster again.

Page file should be set at least 5-10% of your hard drive space on your windows drive. So if you have a 120gig HD it should be a min of 12000 megs at 10% Windows will give you a max that you can not go over. At least in my Windows book from school (4 years old now) recomends that. I am running at almost 3gigs for my pagefile but I have a 120gig HD partitioned in 2-60gig drives.

The admin gave the instructions for Windows Xp I am sure.. because it was not the same way for windows 2000.

For a windows 2000 machine:
Click Start > Settings > Control Panel > System (scroll down) > Advanced Tab > Performance section (click performance options button) > Virtual Memory Section (Click Change... button) > You will then see a lit of your hard drives. Highlight your main windows drive > type in initial size to somewhere around 5% of your hard drive max space and in Maximum to somewhere around 10% of your max hard drive space > Click set button to the right of the two boxes. I set mine on a 60 gig drive to 2500MB and 4095MB (4095 was the most windows would allow me to set) > Click OK > Click Ok > Click Ok > Close and save all programs and then reboot... Really should not have to reboot but in Hosters sake I would to be safe to know that all settings have been changed.

Thanks Kilith. Actually, when I go to change it, Windows shows the recommended minimum, which I set it to, and tripple that for the "max" setting. I have an 80GB drive with 53GB free. I asked MTUSUPPORT (Bryan) and he has never set it to 10%, or even 5%, but more often to 2x the system RAM.

Now, here's the really wierd thing:

1. Before I changed my Virtual setting, Hoster was fast.

2. After I thought I changed it to the radio button to let Windows manage it, and didn't reboot, Hoster was slow and I could see what you folks were talking about. If I click & dragged the Singer's Display small window on my LCD computer screen, it left multiple images behind until I dropped it... like "mouse trails" does when it is enabled.

3. I reset the Virtual settings back to what it was before, and powered down to really be sure it was being changed. When Hoster ran again, it is STILL slow... it didn't speed back up!

4. I've reset it several times and powered down and back up, and it is STILL slow. Well, I've got this fact to give to our programmer early January when he can look at this.

I'll be interested to read what those of you who WERE SLOW might report after changing your Virtual page setting.

Admin,
I set the custom page size to 4096, and the max size to 4096. If you set it to a variable or a difference it will slow down the system. You actually used to have this in the manual. and that is the way I have it on all of my machines except my big system.

I have had no redraw problems on any of the 4 systems I use.

On the AMb64 x2 4400 machine. I have no pagefile, and 3 gig of ram.

Sam, You may have to update those service pack 1 machines for 15-20 times to get all the updates up to service pack 2 I have had to do that before, and it is a pain.
