On a side note, I think MTU needs to up the minimum requirements for the video to 128mb. And manufacturers need to quit misleading people in to thinking they have more than they actually do. |

Mark you are absolutely right about upping to 128MB minimum on the video card. I see a lot of people now having problems with laptops because the mfg skimp on the video memory.

Well 4.06 works on my desktop with the NVIDIA GeForce FX5200 with 128mb. Now I only imported one cd for test purposes...
The spec sheet when I ordered my laptop shows a 128mb ATi Radeon X1300 HyperMemory card.. The laptop reports 256mb when you pull it up. I guess it may just be on the edge of having enough memory...beats me ...What do you think? Is it time to spend some money??

If the memory can't be upgraded to at least 512mb (1GB would be better but don't think it is possible) then yes it may be time to spend some money. The problem is with the shared memory. It really just doesn't work that well with video.
This is the reason I have stayed away from laptops. They are under powered, get too hot and never have enough memory with no way to increase it. Instead I prefer a shuttle type desktop that offers me the ability to upgrade or replace any part without costing me for a whole new unit. Are you disabling the wireless network connection when you run Hoster? Also if you have an anti-virus program and or a Spyware program running be sure to disable them.

I'm still sitting here messing with the darn thing and I should have known that the "Experts" you are - are correct. Not enough memory on video. When I drag the box over to the monitor it really shows up there. In other words it's doing it (lagging) even when there is no monitor connected, it just hard to see. It is a crime the way they say it's "XYZmb" card when it's not.
My laptop shows it as 256mg Graphics Card Manufacturer Powered by ATI Graphics Chipset ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 Bus Type PCI Express BIOS Date 2006/03/29 Memory Size 256 MB Memory Type HyperMemory Core Clock in MHz 209 MHz Memory Clock in MHz 252 MHz At least I know now what I have to do....I don't see any way around getting a new Video Card.....Do you? Thanks for all the help and I'll be looking around the threads while I'm waiting to upgrade. This really can be fun.....Thanks again my friends... ![]()

Oh yeah, I did disable wireless, spyware and anything else that could be running. My son (the software engineer) and I went thru it via remote access and he came to the same conclusion...Video was problem.....Maybe I'll hear from my other rocket scientist from Dell tomorrow...Thanks again..I'm still open for any other suggestions.....

![]() I did a little research for you. The x1300 goes in a slot on the motherboard. The only upgrade card for this model is the x1400. It has 128mb actual memory on it. It is possible to upgrade that card. I also checked my old favorite, Ebay, and these sell for about $60 used. Taking apart a notebook is not a project for the feint of heart, but can be done. It is handy to have a camera ready to take pictures along the way to remind you what it used to look like ![]() file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Setting...umentation.URL I have only disassembled 2 notebooks before. It was not as bad as I first thought. Just take your time and move slowly. They have very odd connectors and short short short cables. Look at all sides of the piece you are removing to see if it is connected to anything not immediately apparent. I figure it's worth a shot. Better than throwing out an otherwise useable notebook. |

thanks for the suggestions marklwood....I'll try anything once. I am use to working on desktops since 1992 (back when 286's came out with cd caddies and all). I know laptops will be different but if someone put it together, I can take it apart (just hope I can put it back together

Nope, hadn't tried that....I know when I first went to 4.xx prior to 4.06,, I didn't have a problem..Just showed up in 4.06....It's crazy...Not giving up yet......the graphics come up fine...music starts but when it's time to sing the "highlighted" word that you should be singing it is about 3-4 words behind the music. That's what I have been calling the "lyrics lagging"...hope that's right....Keep the suggestions and Ideas coming please.......

I would definitely try adjusting hardware acceleration. It could fix it for you.

Try backing it off a couple of notches and see what happens. I would try adjusting it over to the first notch on the left past none first. I really think this might fix the issue. Basically try each one.

I will try to boot up one of my Toshiba laptops when I get home and let you know where they are set. I think there is something in the manual about this too.
