Importing songs from my own numbered discs

all the singer needs to do is enter one short number. no the artist or title.

i still have them put the song name to make sure its correct.

nReel has finally give a complete thought out answer to all my questions. Notice how he spelled everything out and answered both my questions and gave me an estimate of time involved. However, if there are any more ideas about importing I can use, keep 'em flying in as I appreciate all.

nReel, again let me thank you for being so thorough. The other question will be about what I do with discs like "Chartbuster Essential Plus 451".. I know those will be easier as I will not have to populate the title-artists myself, but the disc numbers are 451-1, 451-2, etc. and they are listed in my current song book as such, e.g., 451-4-08. That is what the request slip would have on it for a song number. I would need to look up the book ID as 451-4. Is that possible, if not, what is the closest arrangement to that?

Since you, as the KJ entering numbers into Hoster, would need the quickest and easiest way to get a Song into the Playlist, BookID is the only way to go.

And, since you, probably, have Generic Discs numbered all the way through Disc #451, then the only way to resolve the CB Essential Discs would be to look at 451-4, which is Pack 451 and Disc 4, as BookID 4514.

So, simply use the first 4 numbers as your BookID.

This will allow you to utilize Hoster's Database to "populate" the TITLE and ARTIST fields.

When a Singer submits 451-4-08, you will enter 451408 into the BookID Field.

Now when I did a trial run of 451-4 a few minutes ago, it took about 18 minutes to process. Does that sound about right)I'm on a Dell PC 2.0 ghZ processor. My laptop is a 2.18 gHZ P4. Also, when I am populating the lists; can I do the typing while the disc is importing as that way I won't really be losing any time, right? (still about 18 min/disc, I hope)!

When I install Hoster, I will first be needing to change my current 30gB HD to a 100 gB hard drive for better functionality with Hoster. But having only one HD in the laptop now, how do I get the complete backup of everything I have now to the 100 GB HD and then back into the computer making everything the same as before(except the size of the drive)? This question makes me sound really dumb, but I've never made this type of changeover before.

If you change the HD in your Laptop, you will need to reinstall the OS and all associated Programs.

You may have problems with MicroSoft registering the OS due to having changed the HD. Contact MS.

You may have problems registering HOSTER due to the HD Change. If so, contact MTU.

Before replacing any HD that has KMAs stored on it, backup (copy) all KMAs to an External HD. Make a note of the FOLDER NAME where the KMAs were stored. Copy the whole FOLDER to the External Drive if you prefer.

When your Laptop is up and running again, copy the KMAs, from the External Drive, back to the SAME Folder.

Yes, you can, but I wouldn't.

If you don't finish typing by the time the KMA Conversion is complete, FOCUS is taken away from the info field and FOCUS goes to the NEXT song to be Imported. At that point, all that was typed will be Blanked, unless you quickly Click OUT of the Field you are in, in which case any info will be saved.

I will be changing the HD before I install Hoster and any KMA's. I was wondering if I can simply mirror everything from my current HD to the new 100 gB one, then install the 100 gB one with everything already set to go. Or is it really easier just to use a USB 100gB additional HD instead of changing out the internal one.

my personal opinion is to go with the book-id.

your starting from scratch and have no work into this other than re-printing your song books.

paper is cheap.

Beavis: I do plan on using the Book ID and agreed all along it is well worth it. However, my original question was "What is the most effective way to match my Book ID's with my current song numbers?" I choose to do it this way as I or my g/f will also be hosting places with the songbooks and discs at the same time I may be using hoster. Therefore, it is essential that we keep our songbooks, current disc numbers, and song numbers the same for use in both sets. Uniformity is tantamount here as you can see. Please read nReel's post as he completely described to me how to do this and at the same time still use the Book ID as you suggested(which I thank you for).

Hoster will also print the disk number in the songbook as well as the diskid/songnumber for each song. It prints in itallics next to the song name. you simply select that when you build the songbook file. I choose not to because it confuses people, and they put both numbers on the songslip. or some continually ask you what number to put down.
