Re: singer search slow

Probably the reason your not seeing the .mbd extension is because you have a setting in your Folders options marked not to show.

Go to Control Panel/Options/View Tab and look down the list and look for "Hide extensions for known file types" and un-tick the box then press OK.
Sort this out first then see how you get on.

Re: singer search slow

I don't have my laptop with me right now, so I can't try that, but I cannot edit the demo versions which show the .mdb. It says it doesn't recognize the extension.

Anyway, If I rename my databases, do I have to reload the software to create the database files again to load from Hoster search or will it automatically create new databases when I add a song and singer from search? I know I'm sounding a little stupid, but I really need to get this right. My last show, I just took my printed singers/songs from export and did searches from the id number when singers requested songs. It sure took a lot less time to do it this way since the regular singer search sucks.

Thanks. bugspappaw.

Re: singer search slow

You can't edit the Songs.mbd or any of the other files with an mbd extension unless you have Microsoft Access or use the Hoster Edit dialog.
I think the files you are editing are files with .rtf files or .txt extensions.
When you export your singer list it creates a Songlist.rtf files that you can open in Word or Wordpad, this can then be edited or printed.
What problems are you having with the singers search ?

Re: singer search slow

Ignore my last question as I have read back over the entire thread.

Re: singer search slow

If I rename my existing singer database, will it automatically create a new singer database when I add a singer and song through hoster or do I have to have an existing database for it to write to?

It will create a new database file if one doesn't exist.

You should upgrade to version 5.05. It was released 12/12/2011. In version 5.03 and 5.04, we added indices for often used fields. Doing a Singer's search is now 10 to 100 times faster.

Hoster was originally designed for 10,000 to 20,000 songs, and the Singers DB was not there. When we added indexing audio and video files into the Songs DB, that expanded their Songs DB. One user reports he "legally" has 30,000 Karaoke songs, 30,000 Audio, and 1,000 video files. He was taking 52 seconds to find a song in the Singers DB.

To meet the growing needs of our users, we continually upgrade Hoster. The only way to receive the benefits is to upgrade to the latest version.

There were a few users who had difficulties with 5.03 and 5.04, and we addressed each concern. We believe that 5.05 stablilizes the new functions added from 5.00 up.

Hoster 5.05 should do Singer searches in a few seconds. Yes, Singer... because Songs in the Singers DB are linked through the Songs DB to the song. The indexing we did in the Songs DB makes this "double accessing" significantly faster.

The only warning is you may not be able to return to 4.32 or even 5.02 once you upgrade to 5.03. That's where we added indices to the Songs and Singers Databases. Some other "parameter invalid" has also been reported, but never duplicated. So, if you want speed improvements, upgrade to 5.05. If you are afraid to upgrade, wait and see what others post about using 5.05.

Yeah it is. I have some singers with well over 300 songs in their listing alone & when their name is pulled up it is instantaneous! Unlike the 4.xx days when it could take up to 20 seconds to pull up someones list - locking up all other functions as well!
