Hoster 4.22 vs. 4.31 ...

Has anyone experienced any problems with either 4.30 or 4.31 with Windows 7?

My last download was 4.22 and gave me a fit with "Hoster Stopping" until I finally made some changes to my computer to compensate for the problems. I downloaded it directly and couldn't back up to the previous version (hard lesson learned). Won't do that anymore!

I am VERY reluctant to download any upgrade now. I guess you could call me gun shy!!!

Re: Hoster 4.22 vs. 4.31 ...

I thought you were using 4.30, Kelly. Check the forum and you will see only one drive problem (Older computer) and your audio problem for non-karaoke files for 4.30 and none listed so far for 4.31.
As we and MTU have always said, Save the download and do not Run the download to make sure you have a copy. Though if you look now MTU is making previous versions available for those who need to back up to a previous version.

Re: Hoster 4.22 vs. 4.31 ...

Dale,

I'm totally confused with your post. Were you responding to my message? I didn't see anything here from anyone named Kelly...

The audio problems I had were related to BA and I've since stopped using BA totally! I now use Windows Media to play my music and I use no music between singers... BA is a thing of the past for me. The "Hoster Stopping" problem went away also when I stopped using BA.

I have downloaded 4.31 and it's sitting in a folder on my desktop waiting for me to get up the nerve to install it!

I'm think I am the only one that had a drive problem with version 4.30 on a HP-Vista Laptop. I since have upgraded to 4.31 and the drive problem went away. I have no way of knowing what may have caused the problem. I can tell you I am very pleased with 4.31. I did a show Thursday night using my old (2003) EMachine - XP Home Addition, maxed out at 1.25 Gig of memory and the show went without a glitch. Hope this helps.

Walt

As recommended in the Manual, set a "Restore Point" before you upgrade, just in case. If you are not happy, you can still go back to a previous version also. Several people with Windows7 say that 4.3x is working fine. I use Vista, which occasionally has it's own problems.

Sorry, confusion between names and it was very late when I answered this.
Anyway, MTU has now made it possible for you to get several past releases if you need to go back. Something that wasn't available when you upgraded to 4.22.

Re: Hoster 4.22 vs. 4.31 ...

I had a show last night and I got "Hoster Stopped Working" four times!

I have not had this happen in many, many weeks. Hoster has not stopped working (even once) at all any time!!!

The only difference last night's show and the prior weeks was, I have downloaded Hoster 4.31 to my desktop and it is sitting in a folder. It "has not" been installed...

I don't understnd how or why this happened, but it did!

Nothing, absolutely nothing, has been changed on my computer. In fact, this was the only time in many weeks that my show laptop has been on line at all... I only go online with it to upgrade Hoster. I believe in "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" That's why it stays off line.

I am not only gun shy now (about upgrading), but also baffled...

Re: Hoster 4.22 vs. 4.31 ...

If you have not install 4.31 then it could not have caused this. What it is I do not know but it sounds like you are back to the same old problem.

Maybe we've got "gremlins". I have 4.31 and at home everything worked fine. Friday night I played DJ the first 1/2 hour because no one was there. I imported an ordinary CD (not karaoke). After only 3 songs, Hoster crashed??????????????? Yet, when testing at home I had no crashes while testing imports, etc. before doing my first Show with 4.31. I don't know what to say either Nothing seems to make sense these days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Hoster 4.22 vs. 4.31 ...

Skybird,

That for the information. At least I don't feel like the Lone Ranger right now!

What do you use for your DJ work? I only use Windows Media now when I DJ before my show starts.

I am "VERY" reluctant to use BA again... Since I stopped using it, I had not had any stops until Saturday night!

I've almost got up the nerve to install 4.31, but am still nervous about doing it. I don't have another show until Thursday, so maybe I will have time to recover if something happens...

Re: Hoster 4.22 vs. 4.31 ...

I have Windows 7 64 bit. Latest version of Windows Media Player on my machine, but I cannot view (some) not all MPEG formatted videos. Some have audio playing but you can't see the video it's just black screen. Is there a link that I can go to for what to Change in Windows 7? Or is there nothing to change except UAC (which I've turned off). I see stuff to change for Vista, but nothing for Windows 7 64 bit. Also is there a codec that I may be missing? Maybe that's it but I'm not sure.

Probably an early Vista laptop, which had just barely enough RAM.
Well, all I can say is if you want multiple copies open stick with 3.4 or use one 4.31 and play both audio and karaoke from a single playlist.

Try this link for Windows 7:
http://www.mtu.com/upgrades/hoster/windows7-changes.htm

As far as the mpeg formats, it most likely is that you do not have the codecs install for those formats.
