Open it and find Songs.mdb or just Songs file. RIght click on it and go to properties. Look at the bottom for Read Only and see if that is checked.

Are you setting the BookID when you imported or just using Next BookID?
When you rebuild are you getting amessage telling you that you have duplicate BookIDs?

i am setting the book id. no messages on duplicates. i noticed all was good until i went from a 3 digit id to a 1 digit id. i had some orig. disks at my dads so i ripped in from 437 up to 950 then today i started at 1. i tried 1 and 0001 and same thing. not showing in hoster. i ust put a disc in and it does not show it as imported. i go to the hard-drive and it is there.

My guess is you should have already had a bookid 1 since that is usually the first number you start with. If that is the case you over-wrote that with the imports today but that would also label them exactly as the original and replace the file with the incorrect one.

i started with 641-873. then i did 437-640. all worked great. today i started with 1. i ripped in 25 discs. the only song that actually went in to hoster was disc 19 track 04. i do not show a bookid until 43701 except for the 1904

Are you sure you are not importing duplicate disks (disks that have already been imported)?

Jim you have stumped me. I have never heard of anything like this, especially with XP.
I would put in a Support Ticket and let Bryan work with you on this. Not sure when he will contact you, but he would be able to tap into your computer and see what is going on.

Go to main MTU website and go to Support, then the Web Form.

Jim, I think you might be better concentrating on one computer and getting that working right first.

When you are importing check the save to file location at the bottom of the import window as shown in my attachment and make sure you are using the same path when you use the rebuild option. One other thought are you saving these to the C/ drive ? If not check that your drive letter hasn't changed as can happen when swapping things on the USB connectors.

Had a few more thoughts on this one.
You may not wish to try this if you have already put in a support ticket but this is what I would do.
First make a tempory folder to hold all your imported files in, Example My Documents/ Test kma folder. Now open the folder where all your kma files are at present, from edit tab "Select All" then again from the edit tag select" Move To Folder" and browse to the new tempory folder and select Move. Now your original folder should be empty, now go to Tools tab and select Songs Database, then Rebuild and make sure the selected folder is the empty one, then press the "Rebuild songs Database"
Now this should be the same as starting from scratch. Now go to Import Songs/ CD tracks.Insert the disk you are trying to use at the moment as # 1 then you click the Book ID Root Next button it should show # 1 if not try entering 1 yourself or take note of what # it is alocating you. If it won't let you import at #1 then post back here as there must be something else wrong.
Assuming it has let you import this disk as #1 it should now show with Bookid highlighted in bookID drop down window so that you can select and play this newly imported disk. Again if not post back what is happening.
Assuming all is OK. Open your tempory folder where you stored your Kma files from edit tab select all and again from the edit tab select "copy to folder" this time brows to the folder where your newly imported files are and click "Copy"
You should now have all your original files and the newly imported files in 1 folder.
Now go to Tools/Songs Database/Rebuild and make sure that the only folder showing in the the box is the new one you just created and press "Rebuild Songs Database"
Now check if it has overwritten or deleted your # 1 disk ID or added your original kma files to it.
Again if not post back your results.
Roy.

i re-ripped the 25 back in and they went in fine. i am doing 2 computers so that i can do this twice as fast beings i have over 1000 discs ( and 28 supers that i will tackle next) and am hoping to be done by february 1 with just the cdg's. i do about 50 disks on each, close everything out, plug both hd'd into the same computer and then do a copy and past of all files to each other. i then do a rebuild and all seem to be working fine now. i did though have a caution come up the other day also saying hoster had incountered a problem and had to shut down. i re-opened it and so far no other problems and everything was still there. i am going to check when i get home tonight to make sure all the files are still there on both machines. i have everything backed up on 3 different hd's and when done am planning on burning the kma files to dvd's to put in my bank box. they are able to be copied onto a blank dvd arn't they? i know i can only get so many on each thus prob have 20-25 dvd's but the more backups the better.

Hi Jim
I have not tried what you are doing but you have to make sure you do not get any duplicate Disk IDs or Book IDs which could easily be done by mistake by using 2 computers in this way.
I wish you the best of luck.

Roy.

I agree with Roy, after reading all the information in this thread as you did not have much in your ticket on the actual problem. So I had to come find this thread to figure out what was really going on.

My guess is that you were having discs that were using UNKNOWN for DiscID and this is what was overwriting all the files you were importing. I would MAKE sure you are not importing anything as an Unknown DiscID as it will be overwritten at some point.

i dont have duplicate disks and i am putting all book id's and dis id's in by hand. i triple check all of them with my books which are on the computer and with fasttracks book maker (i have had this for about 5 years). the kma files were all there and correct on the h.d. but would not play or be saw by hoster. i had already ripped in over 300 at that time with no problem. i shut down both computers for 24 hours, started tham back up, re-ripped the 25 and bingo no problems since. i have had hoster come up with warning 3 times. it doesn't have any info. in the box when it comes up on the problem. i didn't know if hoster had something with running for long times or something (i hAD IT ON FOR 96 STRAIGHT HOURS THE FIRST 4 DAYS I GOT THE SOFTWARE). anyways thanks to everyone for all the help. you guys are the best!
