Discard MTU in Programs

Ernie, when you change them in the edit as you have been doing the change is saved to the file header as well as to the songs database, so it is a permanent change and rebuilding will not change it back.

I would still like to find out exactly what mindonstrike is refering to in post #17. I have been eliminating the underscores Individually via the Edit Songs screen and I don't see that they are reappearing.

It took me a few, but I know what he is talking about. He is changing the songs database and then opens the MTU editor, selects the files he changed and hits apply. The editor is reading the info in the database and when you hit apply, it writes the database info to the file header. Sounds like a good idea.

Am I missing something? Isn't that what I want, to make it permanent, so everytime I rebuild the underscores are gone?

Yes, which is why using edit, slow as it seems is the permanent way to make the changes. Sam's suggestion will work too in you follow what he said. As long as you use Hoster's edit to set the changes into the header of each file then rebuild will not change back to the underscores.

I'm confused..... bear with me. Are you saying open Songs.mdb, then eliminate the underscores in Songs, close access, open Hoster, Tools, Songs Database, Rebuild?
Then start all over again changing the underscores in Artist??? Or am I way off base?

He does it using "Edit Songs" in the Tools menu.

If you rebuild your database before doing this, the charactures will come back because the information in the header hasn't been changed.

From What I Read each file must be done individually. Looks like time for some File remaiming software.

1. Open Songs.mdb in Access. Correct the title and artist. Close Access.
2. Open Hoster and go to Edit Songs. Find the same group of Songs in Select Multiple not Select Single. Highlight them all and click on Apply Changes.
3. You don't have to but you can then rebuild and it should not change them back. The only thing you are doing in edit is to Apply the changes you made in Access so it saves that information in the file headers.

When I go into Select Multiple no songs that I've changed come up. It stays blank. When I opened songs mdb I cleaned up 6 songs along with artist. You're not talking about going into Songs mdb and hitting ctrl F and then opening Replace are you? Your only talking about physically correcting the underscors on the actual list one at a time. Is there anything I need to have set on the Select Multiple window?

Select Multiple will not show any songs until you enter a search criteria and click on find.

In songs.mdb click the top of the title or artist column to highlight it. Press control F and replace tab. put an underscore in the find field and a space in the the replace field. Be sure it is set for finding in any part of the field. and click next and replace to do one at a time or "replace all" if you don't want to preview the song name before replacing.

Don't save anything or convert anything if Access asks (it did this automaticly). Close Access and Open Hoster and select the songs you changed and click apply. And you are done.

You don't have to have a separate change/save session for each column. Make all your changes for title and then make all your changes for artist and then close access and do your thing in Hoster.

I replaced ALL in Access. Now, in Hoster you said... Select the songs you changed and click apply. Select what songs, where? I went to tools, edit songs, select multiple and there are no songs. How do I get the list of songs that I took care of in Access. By the way I have no idea what songs were taken care of in Access, because I had a ton of them. Still confused!?!? Right now my one brain cell is in overdrive.

I just tried something... I went to Edit Songs, selected Multiple Songs. In the Match Box I put *, ticked Title and Artist, then hit find. A bunch of songs came up. I then hit Apply, and a box came up saying Modifying Songs DB and kma File Headers. It looks like it's going to process every song in my kma list, because it went from 0 and is going to 25480. Does this sound right???

If you use the wildcard ( * ) it doesn't matter which buttons are depressed, everysong you have will come up. If they are a certain brand you could narrow your search that way or a range of bookid's. No matter though doing all of them shouldn't hurt anything, it just takes a lot longer.

If there was a way to seperate the songs that have the underscores, I would have done it that way. With over 25,000 songs, it's just easier to let it run.
