How do you hook up the mic's?

hoster software with my laptop and getting video
and audio seems simple enough, but where do you
connect the mic's?

This question is impossible to answer without a lot more information.
Are you planning on using this setup for personal or professional shows?
What type/model of laptop?
Generally you don't connect the microphones to the computer, but to a mixer or mixer/amplifier combination or even a home stereo that has microphone connections.

TV via RCA jacks and to my stereo with a 1/8 to left and right
convertor. When you talk about a mixer, are you referring to an
actual karaoke machine? My stereo does not have mic connectors on it.
Can you suggest a mixer to add to my system?

If you are just doing it at home you don't really need the microphones. We have done that many times. For home use I would suggest going to a local music store or Best Buy and see what they have in the way of an in-expensive one.

To get a mic into your system you might try a *very* small mixer from a local music store or even radio shack (they carry lots of that kind of stuff and it is very affordable). Don't buy more than you need and order if necessary. My personal recommendation would be something from Behringer or Samson (low cost and good quality)

Set up is very simple. A low cost microphone, an XLR cable (just ask at a music store), and maybe a few adapters and cables to connect things between all of it.

The outputs from the mixer would go straight into your stereo via cables and your current setup (with the 1/8 from your computer to RCA adapter) will plug into an input on the mixer.

With that your can adjust everything to where it sounds good to you.

The only reason I suggest this type of setup is that most home stereo systems do not have a mic input and you can't select more than one source at a time.

you can get a cheap mixing board, and a mirophone, if i were you i'll get a good quality active ( powered ) speakers and plug into your tv audio, i dont think tv speakers can bring out a good vocal sounds..either way it might cost you around $300 or more...and my advice too is..i now you said just for personal used..but in the long run you gonna end up buying more stuff..caused you gonna want that good quality audio and vocal sound..thats what i though at first.."just for personal used" i ended up buying more stuff..

I use an older version of this Karaoke mixer as the heart of my home system, and hosting for our private Karaoke club and have never had a problem with it.

Read the features. You're gonna want every one of them before it's over.

Last year got tired of stepping over mike cords and went to two four channel wireless systems, and still have room to add more with the built in mike inputs if we grow.

mixer that has a digital input/output i.e. tos-link or coaxial! I would
like to go digital from my laptop since it has an SPDIF port on it.
Any suggestions? I'm using standard RCA cables now. I could go
straight from my laptop to my home stereo but I would be bypassing
the mixer and would not be able to connect my mic's!

you wont be able to get a mixing board with digital out/tos-link..the only mixing board that i know that has a digital out..is a dj mixer..i have one, from stanton..dual tray dj mixing board..but most dj mixers is only good for playbacks and only one mic out..(not singing) unless you get one of those recording mixing board..which will cost a lot...
