What's Wrong With My Computer?

Microstudio and Songverter have problems on my computer

I'm having sync problems, problems burning kma's created by songverter to disc, noises while playing songverted kma's, and some of my songverted files are played at twice the speed.

Finally I was able to load these programs to another computer, and it seems that I don't have these problems.

I will kill all other programs if necessary to make this laptop work.

Windows XP Professional 2002
Service Pack 2
Processor x86 Family 6 Model13 Stepping 8
Bios 1.24
IBM
Intel Pentium 1.73 ghz
504 mb RAM

I don't know what most of this stuff means, I got it off the "System" front page and from the "Think Pad Configuration"

Both programs are currently being tested for fixes to some of the problems that have popped up. Don't know if it will help or not, but can't hurt. What format are your files originally?

One problem you may have with it could be the audio acceleration setting. Try lowering it to standard. That can be done through the DXDIAG command (type that in run) and adjust the audio acceleration down.

Also you might check and make sure you have all of the microsoft updates including the ones in "Custom" update. Many times not having those has caused problems. I know there was an update for WMP 11 last week.

At least some problems not fixed.

After loading 4.003 and Songverter 1.001 I still have certain problems on this computer.

This is the most important:

After converting bins to kma, Microstudio won't play the kma files without a lot of Tic Tic Tic noise.

I can convert wma-g's to KMA, but only after reprocessing the wma portion of the file with gold wave.

I like the naming of the files now. Good job

So the question remains, What is Wrong With My Computer?

Do you get a bad conversion or it just won't process?
Are the BIN imports done with the new version or hold overs from the previous version?

The major problem is you are running an operating system (Windows 2000) that is out of date and only being supported by Microsoft for critical security updates. If I remember correctly the current WMP won't load on it. I don't know about the latest DirectX (9) or NetFrame.
Your best bet would be to look for an OEM copy of XP and upgrade it.

I have XP

I do have XP, not 2000.

KMA conversions from scratch, Bins created using Plextor drive on the other machine and from scratch using bins created by my Memorex drive.

KMA naming still does not name the whole name of the file.
Playing on this laptop still has unacceptable tic tic noises.

So again, what's wrong with my computer?

Help anybody?

What do you mean by this? Is there something else you want added?

Many laptop sound cards are just not capable of handling music quality sound. I have a Sager laptop that distorts everything. If you have tried looking for updated drivers from IBM for your sound card then the cure for it may be to use a USB external soundcard as some others have described in these forums.
Your WMA+G to KMA conversion problem I can't duplicate as mine work fine. Only thing I can suggest is if you haven't upgraded to Media Player 10 or 11 try that. It has surprisingly cured other audio problems before.

Jahern,
When you get the files into this computer that is causing the Tic, tic, tic noise, are you importing them from the CD Drive or are you copying them from the other computer, that has the Plextor drive?

If you are actually importing them into this computer with Microstudio, the drive is making this tic noise, and the only way to fix that is to replace the drive.

Tried Different Combinations

Tried

Plextor bins with conversion on the "Plextor" machine KMA files play fine on "Plextor" machine but when files imported (usb hard drive) Laptop, Tic Tic

Plextor bins, with conversion on Laptop, Tic Tic

Before 4.003, khp created and converted, played on Laptop Tic Tic

Confusing facts:
Other Software Demo playing all converted KMA's on Laptop, No Tic Tic

Hoster Demo KMA's, non-plextor Drive, played on Laptop Microstudio, No Tic Tic

Unfixed:

Songverter 1.001 still creates files whose names are not the same as original Bin names
Example DKG-73-6.kma (No Title, No Artist-In file name, Microstudio knows and displays that info but it is not in the file name)

My Plextor Machine will still not Songvert anything to mp3, no matter how carefully I place the "lame" file into the system

Fixed my MP3 problem

Apparently I did not have the most recent NET downloaded. I discovered this while trying to transfer and print an .xps file. Windows advised me and arranged for the upgrade.

So on that issue Never Mind

Problems on Laptop still exist

Look in Songverter's Tool list and click on "Use Full Names For KMA Files"
That will give you the full DiskID, Track, Artist, and Title name.

One More Problem Down

One more down. Now I'm just left with the Tic Tic noise with its accompanying confusing facts.

Thanks ddouglass

Jahern,
Are you saying that you can play the files from the external hard drive in another program and they will work on the Laptop?

If not, then I would say maybe the hard drive has some bad sectors that are causing the noises.

Yes and more.

S______ Player from another software company plays Songverted KMA's on my laptop without the noise, just as another Player, a free one, played Songverted wma-g files fine without the noise.

If I take "Songverted" wma-g files, "Songverted" from bins, whether done on the laptop or the other machine, and reprocess them with Goldwave, Microstudio plays those wma-g files fine. Of course Goldwave only reprocesses the wma files. I cut and paste the cdg files to go along.

KMA files processed by Hoster Demo also play without the noise on my Laptop (in Microstudio)

I've tried different combinations, and it doesn't seem to matter if the items are played on external hard drive, or laptop internal hard drive. It doesn't matter where the files were first Songverted either, Unreproccessed Songverter files with a WMA base play poorly on my Laptop using Microstudio

What version of Media Player do you have? I know this seems off the wall, but a couple of problems have been solved by updating Media Player which is the primary player for WMA.

From Media Player?
I am beginning to believe Bryan may be right about your hard drive. When a drive has problems finding the sectors needed, they can start clicking because they are doing a wide sweep seeking to find it. Rough explanation but very hard to explain.
Try running a Checkdsk on your C: drive and see if you come up with any errors.
