USB TV-OUT (Possible?)

I have a laptop from the school where I teach. Obviously I'm not going to install any hardware inside. But is there a possibility that using some device, preferrably USB that I can send computer images, even karaoke, to a TV screen?

most laptops have a s video output. you can get a s video to rca inline converter at radioshack for $20.. then just plug in the rca to the tv's av jacks

This one does not have s video, although I had never checked it until today. I'm optimistic. I think that I have seen in my websearching apparati that will convert a vga(?) output to TV. Is that right?

There was a thread a year or two ago, either here or in Hoster Help, where somebody claimed to have an external usb graphics card.

As for VGA to RCA. I have one of those. I think I paid $10 or $15 for it about 3 years ago. It converts VGA to RCA or Svideo. I used it for desktop (for some reason I don't recall). I have yet to use it with my laptop though.

Hey Jahern,
There are usb to TV converters out there with video or s-video inputs.
Also vga to TV converters.
If your sound card has a yellow video connection, this can be used.
Likewise your microphone jack for audio or your external speaker jacks.
Experiment you have nothing to lose, they'll either work or they won't

I was mistaken that my laptop didn't have s-video, I thought it was a PS2 port!

I have acheived very fuzzy success in stringing the s-video to an RF Modulator and then to my TV via coaxial.

If I tried to see all the Icons, life would be very difficult, but I guess I can see the Karaoke words well enough. Is this the best I can do?

Use S-video to RCA and directly into TV without the RF modulator. That should clear up the display. Also make sure you set the second monitor to extended rather than duplicate.

Hey All,
It stands to reason that the more bits and pieces you run through, the more the sound and picture will almost certainly get further degraded.
ddouglass is certainly right, S-video to RCA direct should give best results.

(Not to mention whatever processes the TV goes through with RCA or Coaxial inputs)

When I was at Fry's today and purchased my RF Modulator I didn't see any converter that took s-video input and gave RCA output. Even if I did, I might still be making the same purchase. (At my church, for instance, some of the TV's don't even take RCA inputs) But I will have my eyes open. Fry's has a liberal return policy.

Radio Shack has both types of cables. Since the laptop has an S-Video out it already converts signal to TV so you don't need an RF Modulator to convert the signal.

For the TV's that have s-video, certainly no converter is necesary.

If a TV is capable of RCA input like from a VCR or DVD player then they are capable of taking the output fram the laptop. If all it has is the coax input then you will need the RF Modulator to convert to coax, but the pivture will be greatly reduced in sharpness.

as DALE DOUGLAS mentioned make sure that your second monitor
is set to extended (under your video card properities)

also, you set set the ressolution lower on the 2nd output, this
will also help to give youa clear picture.

there's no reason even though a RF MOD that your image shouldnt
be pretty clear, also make sure any coax cables you are using are
good (ie: no bent stinger)

Any chance of MTU shipping a couple of leads over to me.
