Sony CD-RW Problems

Can anybody help!

I have a Sony CD-RW CRX200E ATAPI Drive which does support CD+G...

I have now purchased a Sony CD-RW CRX220A1 Drive which does not support CD+G...

The problem I have Is that I want to run both CD-RW Units in my PC...

The CRX200E Is setup as the Master (IDE Secondary)
The CRX 220A1 Is setup as the Slave (IDE Secondary)

But when I come to reboot the PC It holts at the 'Verifying DMI Pool Data' and the whole PC freezes...

I have tried both drives around the other way regards Master/Slave... The settings in BIOS are set to Auto Detect!

Previously I had a standard Matsumi CD-Rom Drive running alongside the Sony CRX200E In harmony, with no problems...

It seems to me that both the Sony drives are In conflict with each other!!

Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong?

All cables are connected fine...
Is there something I need to do In setup?

Please help!

Cheers

Glenski

First check you computer ribbon cable to see if it's a:

1. Standard Ribbon Cable with 40 Pin Connections or

2. If it's a Cable Select [CSEL] with only 39 Pin Connections (one of the 40 Pin Connections is "blocked" toward the middle of the connector)

3. If it's a Standard Ribbon Cable make sure that the Jumper Connections on the Back of the CD-RW's are set correctly, one to Master and one to Slave.

4. If you have a "Cable Select" Ribbon, then the Jumper Connections on the Back of the CD-RW's are both set to "CSEL" Cable Select. To use "CSEL" your computer's bios MUST support CSEL.

5. I believe that "auto detect" implies you have jumpers set on CSEL and a 39 Pin CSEL Ribbon Cable.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

6. P.S. If you plan to "Copy on the Fly", suggest one CD-RW be on the Primary ribbon cable and one CD-RW be on the Secondary Ribbon Cable.

Glenski,
I would contact Sony, this sounds like some type of hardware issue with their drive. You are correct in that the drives should work correctly together.

Thanx

Thanx KJZone

I have indeed done all that you have listed... but still it does not work...

The ribbon cable is a full 40 pin connector, regards the Auto Detect... Imeant auto detect for the CD-RW Drives on boot up...

As MTU Support states.. I will try and contact Sony!

Maybe it's something to do with the settings in BIOS...

I'll see what happens....

Bloody shame that the Sony CRX220A1 does not support CD+G... It's a bloody fast drive 52X/24X/52X

Cheers guys

Glenski

I edited my original Post:

SUGGEST YOU GO INTO YOUR BIOS AND UNSELECT AUTO DETECT AND SIMPLY ASSIGN A MASTER AND SLAVE ON WHATEVER RIBBON CABLE (THE PRIMARY OR SECONDARY) YOU HAVE THE CD-RW'S CONNECTED TO.
