Question Duplicate Book Id Numbers

I have been using Hoster for over two years. When I built my song database the last time it said I have 147 dupilicate book id numbers. I have the newest version of Hoster. Any time I import a disk I always click the next book id number. Has any one else had this happen? How do you know which ones are dupes and how do you fix it?

Re: Duplicate Book Id Numbers

Have you ever used more then one unit to import your songs ??

if so this is most likely were you have run in to this problem.

if you have been using the same to do all your importing

Re: Duplicate Book Id Numbers

Read this thread on BookIDs.

Hoster 3.108 shows you any duplicate BookIDs you have in your computer, when you run the Build Songs Database as any duplicates found for an already listed BookID are stored into the SongBookDBLog.txt file, saved in your [installed directory]\Hoster\Databases folder.

There are three ways duplicates can occur:
  1. Importing on 2 Computers - As Mike has pointed out above, if you are not careful when importing on 2 different computers, each with their own Songs Database holding their used BookIDs, you can import songs with duplicate BookIDs.

  2. RE-Importing Songs - In the Import screen, if you are importing a disc you have already imported a track from, the Status field shows IMPORTED. If you click the Sel check box beside that track, you will import it again. Now, here's where your duplicates may have come from. In Hoster versions prior to 3.108, if you CHANGED the Save To Folder for what you are now importing so it is different from where you earlier imported the same song, it would create a duplicate file in the currently selected Save To Folder.

We fixed this in Hoster 3.108. When you re-import over an existing file, it AUTOMATICALLY uses the same path/folder to save the new file as was used for the existing file. Thus, it will now replace the prior file, no matter where you save it to before. The Save To Folder current setting is IGNORED.

  3. Illegal Swapping KMA Files - This can also generate duplicate BookIDs on your system. This is illegal, and if you are caught you can loose all your equipment, and even your car/van for transporting stolen songs.

We realize that honest customers can end up with duplicate BookIDs from the first two means above, and need a simple way to fix this.

Hoster 3.2 will automatically renumber any duplicate BookIDs found when running the Build Songs Database command. Each duplicate will be numbered the next lowest available BookID Root with the Track# of the duplicate file appended at the end as is normally done to create the finished BookID.

Re: Duplicate Book Id Numbers

Thanks
I never used 2 computers to import, so that won't be the problem. I have reimported some disc's that were bad and I have changed where my kma files are stored also. So that must be where they came from.

Thanks for the reply

Re: Duplicate Book Id Numbers

Sit tight on those duplicates until 3.2 comes out.

Re: Duplicate Book Id Numbers

I'm sorry I got the impression 3.109 was going to have those features. I must have misread it somewhere in another post.

Re: Duplicate Book Id Numbers

With the new version of Hoster (3.108) I am to am getting duplicate BookIDs , when I run the Build Songs Database. Each time I run the build song database I get "the song DB log file could not be opened, after clicking ok I then get "509 duplicate book Id's." I assume this means I have 509 duplicates, they are listed in the log file. I know there is a fix on the way soon but in the meantime when I create a new songbooks is the songbook going to be accurate? What happens if I delete the database and re-run it?

Duplicate Bookd Id's

Is there a way to delete the song db and then rebuild the song list. I have 500+ duplicate book ID#'s. I had to go in and delete these songs and manually and now am in the process fo reentering 40+ discs. I know that I will now have different book id's in my 3 shows. Will 3.2xx allow me to correct this??

reimporting discs

Is there a way to bring the songs back into the computer other than manually reimporting each disc. If I use an external hard drive can I reimport the kma's and then have hoster build the database?? this would be much quicker than having to reenter the 40 discs. I am glad that 3.2xx will fix the problem but will need to get the show back to all the songs before it comes out.

Duplicate Book Id's

I have either imported from discs, being careful to do them in order or have used the external hard drive to mass import. I did not know if I could delete the song.mdb and the back up and create a new song.mdb. It seems like Doug had tole me to delte songs. mdb, song back and something else and then rebuild the database(this was bay back on 2.015 or so when chartbuster had a problem with the song on a disc). Are there files i can delete and then reuild the database.

duplicate book id's

I have the 40+ discs backed up on an external hard drive as the kma files that were imported by hoster. can I get them back into my show without reimporting each individual disc? I had to tell a few singers this weekend that I had a computer problem with the 40+ discs and that I did not have them with me. they were understanding this weekend but I will neede to have them back in the show by next thursday when I run the show there again. can I use the external to reimport the kma's and then rebuild the database?? Do I neede to delete a song.mdb?? If anyone knows please let me know.

The only way to fix the duplicate BookId's is to reimport the .kma files from the CD. You would need to delete the songs.mdb and also find the exact .kma files for the duplicates, remove the .kma files, rebuild the songs database and then reimport those 40 discs. Then it would be all back running correctly.

I have about 45 duplicates. I assume the list reflects the songs that were replaced. So reimporting what is on that list from the original CD will create new book i.d. numbers and everthing will be ok from that point on.

Looks like I imported 3 discs on my Laptop instead of my portable PC. Never even thought about getting out of sync.

Glad this feature is there and will pinpoint which discs and songs were affected.
