Cool NULL singers

When I select the Songs tab in the Singer's Database the first 6 entries read Singer NULL, # of song 0, Last Date NULL.

Cool NULL singers

Here goes

Under the Singers Tab Singer = NULL, # of Songs = 0, Last Date = NULL.

I think that when I pressed the S+ button neither song nor singer were selected!

It does not seem to pose any operational problems but only takes up the first 6 lines of the singer listing!

In the singers database press the singers tab then you'll see a listing only of singers names and one column with total songs for that singer, you can then highlight the singer that has an "0" for amount of songs and press delete and it will delete.

What it doesn't delete is the Null name at the top of the list I only have one and I haven't a clue as to why it's there or what purpose it serves?

Good Luck

Joe.....

Joe, "Null" name shows up in the Singer's list for the database if you have done as Karaoke Kiwi has said.
The only way I know how to get rid of them at the moment is to use Access to delete the records with blank names in the Singers table. They won't delete from in Hoster. I'll bring this up too in the beta testing to see if these can either not be created or to only create one for those times you want to put in a song without a singer's name such as Audio songs.
When ever you add a track using just the Add Track or the S+ Hoster saves the name in the database. That is why you get names in the list with 0 song entries.

I tried Access and the name Null doesn't show in the list in Access, What does show is a blank Name with no Date and a number in the SingeId column, could this be that Null entry in the singer tab?

Do you have Microsoft Access? If so double click on the Singers.mdb file in C:\MTU\Hoster and open it in Access. You will see two tables listed "Singers" and "Songs". Open Singers and find the ones with no name in the Name column.

Smile Singers.mdb

Cheers Dale!

I was looking under my programs and it didn't show there!

I thought I had Access on my work PC but IT must have removed it when they 'Upgraded' My Box.

I can get it sorted out now.

Thanks.

Albert

When you open it in Access if it asks if you want to "convert" the database tell it NO. The database has to remain in the format it is in (Access97) or Hoster won't be able to use it.

Joe and Steve I need you to post the exact steps you did that deleted the wrong songs/singers. I can not duplicate this and neither can MTU.

Hi Dale

1. Simple process go to singers database chose singer tab check the amount of songs for the particular singer you want to use for your experiment note the number of songs and the singer name down. ( I used one with 37 songs)

2. Chose the song tab enter the singers name you've chosen, sort the song field by Title in descending order chose any song half way down the list Note it down and delete.

3. Check the list again to Verify that the song you tried to delete is still there.

4. Then go back to the singer tab and check the number of songs displayed and compare with what you noted down earlier, it will read one song less.

And that's how you know something was deleted.

Please let me know how it went it's working for me.

Joe....

I have tried this and it works fine for me and the correct song was deleted. MTU has also looked at this and cannot duplicate it either. They can't fix something they can't duplicate.

Did you sort by Title first before deleting?

It will work properly if you Don't Sort The List First

But If You Sort By TiTle Or Artist It Will Delete The Wrong Song.

Maybe Some Others Reading This Post Can Participate and Try It On There Computer And Report Back If It Works or Not.

I reported this months ago and seen other post on this?

Then what could be wrong if it does it in my computer and steve's which I'm sure there are others that haven't reported yet?

What a Mystery?

Joe....

PS Before I sent This Post I Tried This Again (6) Six Times to (Love Is A Battlefield) Song And The Program Deleted (6) Six Other Song In That Singers Database And I'm Still Looking At Love Is A Battlefield.

If I Don't Sort A Field Like By Artist Or By Title Then It Will Delete The Song I'm Trying to Delete.

The Key Here Is Don't Sort The Field Before You Delete.

Hi Bryant

Did you sort the field first before deleting?

And how many songs are in the singers database you choose ( Don't tell Me One ) I chose one with 37 songs.

I'm going to try 10 to see if that makes a difference?

Joe....

Dale
How many songs where in the one that you choose.

I followed every step you posted and could not duplicate it.
Why yours and Steve's does it I don't know but it isn't happening here.
