my drive's always been working, i had never had a problem with the old version, its just when the 4xxx versions came out, but anyway i did a show last Sat. and i was importing singers disc at the very end of a song playing, i noticed that i was getting a glitched on the singers monitor while importing and reading the disc was so slow, but writing the disc just took a few seconds..

This could be because the singer's disc is either scratched or dirty. This would make the read slower as Hoster trys to correct errors in the read. Take a look at their disc before you put it in the drive. This one reason why I still keep a disc cleaner handy.
You would be surprised at how many people (some DJs and KJs too) do not know how to handle CDs. I have seen people rub them on their shirts or pants to try to clean them or grab the across the data side with their whole hand.

That is the error correction kicking in. My wife has gone to makeing announcements in between while importing. Saves on the aggrevation in case the disc is scratched or extremely dirty.

we had a bad weather last night, and luckily for me it wasn't a busy night, (40-50ppl )and i had some friends that came by , and one of them is a comedian,( looks like Fat Albert ) so when i found out about my importing problem , i kinda asked him to tell a few jokes, while i import..and it worked, had to buy him a few drinks though..but anyway if that was the error correction working, there is no way of fixing it ?, so you're telling me unless the disc in good shape importing shouldn't be problem ?..

I never had any problems importing a singer disk track in 3.xx and older versions.
I had nothing but problems from day one with 4.xx. Someversions it would throw the lyrics out of sync for the duration of the import. And in some it would slow down the swiping on lyrics for the duration of the imports and in others it would create a nasty audio drop during the import.

After Admin badgered me for quite a while about reloading windows, I did and all of my singer disk import problems went away. All of my singer disk imports are now perfect, and with only 32mb onboard graphics. The only issue I OCCASIONALLY have is an audio drop when I eject the disk so I now wait until the song is finished before ejecting.

I tried installing a 256mb card and started having the problems again so I dumped the card and restored my computer to before then and all is working again.

To summarize: Try reloading windows and do the updates and then re-instal Hoster. It's an all day affair so plan to start early and work late but it may fix things right up.

Sam

re-loading windows, yup i've done those and i dont think i wanted to do that again, and i do keep up with the updates, but thanks for the suggestions though, i dont have problems with audio dropped outs, and i'm fine with what i got now, i only have one singer that brings in her own disc anyway and it's mostly broadway tunes, so worst come to worst i'll just buy the same disc.and i would rather spend the whole day importing disc, that reloading windows..thanks again for the suggestions.

That is what I always do (buy the disc), and you will be surprised someday that someone else will also end up singing some of those same songs on that same disc once they know you have them.

i just upgraded my back-up to 4.11 and i tried to import a disc while a song is playing using my int. cd/dvd drive, test came out good.i used my own disc this time ( very clean and in good shape ), i still had the same problem, i updated the driver, same result, the song playing was wobbly, then it stopped..then i switched to my ext. slim cd/dvd drive test came out good,i imported a song ..well ..didn't have any problem, everything went well , no wobbles, song did not stop..

Re: importing singers disc

I never let a singer use their own disc. If they cannot find anything out of my 12000 songs then that is not my problem. I have enought things to do during the show.

I also don't let people bring their drinks up while singing, if they are falling down drunk, no singing for them either. They might trip on cables or spill drinks in your monitor if you use one.

Re: importing singers disc

I don't allow drinks in the singer's area either. I've had people spill them, forget them, and come back up to fetch their drinks while another singer is performing. Just a bad idea to allow them. But can't quite understand the logic of not allowing a singer's disc. Thats what i'm there for. I'm never too busy to accomodate a singer with their own disc. I have songs no one else in the world has, and i want to sing them. Could care less what's in the book. You would be doing me a diservice by not allowing me to sing them. JMHO...
P.S. Sound Choice is the exception. A sound choice product is noit allowed in my club. My rules. Management has no say so over my rules for karaoke. I don't serve drinks, they don't host karaoke. Been a winning combination.
