The other thing I would suggest is to defrag both drives to speed up files transfer.
The 2 320GB drives you mention are these internal or external USB drives?
Both of the drives are internal and defragged. I had to make two changes from the recommended checklist but it did not change anything. Songs still take 10-15 to play.

This is really strange because my cue time actually improved with 4.xx. The time on mine is 2-3 seconds and this is a busy computer. The only cue problem I have ever seen with all the testing was with imported ZIP files because Hoster had to unzip them before using them.

I finally figured out that the problem with the kma files taking so long to cue IS Hosters fault. As I stated earlier I never had this problem while running 3.321.

I uninstalled the current version and reinstalled 3.321 and it works like a charm. Songs load right after I press the play button!! They do not even take a half of a second to load.

Just to experiment, after installing 3.321 I then installed Hoster 4.08 and again the songs are taking 10-15 seconds to play.

I even tried running the 3.4 version that comes embedded with 4.08 and I still have the same problem.
So the only thing that is going to work for me is staying with version 3.321.

The differences between 4.08 and 3.21 are many. It is definitely more demanding on your system. What I don't understand is the other statement. 3.321 and 3.4 are exactly the same code. The only difference is the install/uninstall option and that doesn't have anything to do with the player. I'm not saying that you are wrong, only that I don't understand what could be different. Maybe MTU support could let us know if there is anything at all different about the two.

I'm not support but I do know that the only thing they did was make 3.321 work with the 4.08 registration code. Other than that nothing is changed between 3.321 and 3.4. So the only thing that could be changing how they work is how Vista treats it.

.NET FRamework Problem?

I have narrowed the problem down to one of two things. I started removing items off my computer one at a time. I removed MS .Net framework and my anti-virus (pc-illin) and this took care of the the problem. Since I removed both at the same time I don't know which program was causing the problem but I am going with the MS .Net framework since I usually have my anti-virus shut off during a show anyway.

My song now start playing in about 1 second vs 15 seconds.

This is the first I have heard of this (pc-illin) anti-virus program. Since I have used NET.Framework 3.5 with Hoster 4.08 with no problems since it came out, I'd be inclined to think your anti virus program is causing your problem. I use Avast Anti Virus with no problems. Give it a try, it's free for home use.

I like learning about software that is out there (both old and new). As long as it is not a karaoke hoster competitor, please feel free to share.

Side note, anti-virus software uses system resources and memory because they constatnly scan everything you are running during a show. I would not run them on a show computer if you can help it. If you hook the computer up to the net to do Hoster updates only, then disconnect, you should never have to worry about a virus.

Hey Dspins,
I don't disagree with you here but I leave Avast Anti Virus running during my shows and during my testing (I'm a beta tester) with no problems. It's the best Anti Virus progam I have found and free for home use.

I read that the new nortons 2009 is supposed to be much less of a hog. They scaled it down a bit and it runs much better. I am going to look up what you are using though Jim. I am interested.

I run McAfee suite while Hoster is running on Vista 32 & 64 with no time delay. Also have Net 3.5 as well.

I to had McAfee on my show machine. It was interfearing with Hoster. So i took it off. I never go online except to update hoster. Also, when i purchased my new laptop, it had a Napster player and software on it. It to, messed up hoster. So i unloaded all the junk programs that came with my lappy, and Hoster cruises along pretty well now. Just a thought.

Thank you for letting me know this Musicman.

I had a new Beta Version I was going to give you to try in the ticket, but you said you got it working, so I will not, so we will wait till 4.09 is released for you to have a stable version to work with.

I used my Hoster setup last night {May 22, 2009}. I had a wedding reception at a real nice country club up here in michigan. The help there assisted me in unloading my van, and putting my equipment on a cart, and loading me up and even helped unload it on their bandstand. Man, that was nice. Then i sat up my Hoster laptop. What an easy night. I got to mingle, talk with the nice ladies there, and drink coffee most of the evening, the prime rib was fantastic. Did this whole reception paperless. Took about 10 seconds to find any song i needed. Played karaoke, a few polkas, instrumentals, bridal dance, and dollar dance. I need a few more jobs like this one. Thank you MTU for Hoster.

P.S. The ladies were nice to by the way
