Unhappy Deleting songs from Singer's Database

I am using 4.06 with XP. I keep a couple of lists for certain singers (in singers database) that contain many songs. I cannot seem to delete songs in the songs database screen. For example in one list under the name "Tena" I have duplicates......I can highlight ia song and hit "delete" and it asks me if I am sure.....I click "Yes" and when the screen is refresed, the duplicate is still there. Is there a way to edit this list easily?

I also can't delete singers "names" and have read from previous post/searches that It may have something to do with a Microsoft Mouse.....?? I keep a lot of these for locals but would like to delete a few.

Are you sorting the list before you delete? I believe one of the users mentioned something about that. If you don't sort the list, then it worked OK for him.

Yes, I am sorting the list (alphabetical order) to see the duplicates, then deleting them, then re-sorting to see if they're gone. They are not.

Try it without sorting. Let us know if it works.

Lightbulb This is ODD!

The default view really ought to be alphabetical anyway as how would you browse a long list of songs from one of your regulars?

I don't think the default is sorted at all. It is just in the order they were entered. Problem in sorting would be you want it sorted by title and somebody else would want it sorted by artist.

Although I can't imagine too many singers singing a whole bunch of songs from a whole bunch of artists. Title would be best. I have meny come to me and say "Show me what I've sung". No one has ever said "Show me who I have sung by".

All I was saying was by not setting a default then it is left to you to choose which way you want to look at it as everyone is going to want something different. You can sort by title, artist and even by last date sung, but the choice needs to be left to the individual.

I kinda like the date sort. I encourage them to sing something they haven't sung in a while.

In this same vein as the original poster, I made a big oops the other night. I was trying to trim down the singers database. I listed all the singers and then sorted by # of entries. I highlighted all the ones that had 0 (zero) songs and hit delete. What in fact happened is I deleted A-R. Not what I had highlighted.

Luckily, I had a backup for just such an emergency

Oh. Then maybe it could default to title at first opening then choose by clicking a column after that if another is a preference at the time.

Hi Steve

Check your singer list with your play list to see what songs where deleted while this delete problem was going on.

Because every time you highlighted a song and it didn't delete that one, it deleted another song in your list.

You may not have noticed so check it and re-select those missing songs if there still in your playlist.

If you print the singers database file like I do then you could reference that way to recover.

Good Luck

Joe......

A 50 Name Venue database is easier to organize and notice screw up's Much faster then a 500 name Singers database.

Don't you think so? Marklwood?

Actually, it wouldn't do me any good. I own the bar. I only have one venue. You just made me chuckle. I know your thoughts on this and I just liked the way you slipped it in. If I were in your position I would agree that it would be handy to have a venue selection.

Back to the Original Problem

I don't disagree with any of the comments and in truth the real solution would be to fix the delete problem after sorting.

I have a handfull of NULL entries against my singer list which were created when I accidentally hit S+ with nothing selected. These I cannot delete. Can anybody help?

Not sure what the NULL name is all about but you can't rename, delete or add songs to it because it doesn't show up in the singers list box in Hoster.

Try to open it in access but not there either?

You'll need to ask dddouglass maybe he can explain this mystery of the third kind?

Also I checked my singer listings and found some 0 and was successful in deleting all I needed to.

Are you clicking the singers tab?
