What about if you want to upgrade any MTU software, you have to be on line. I just turn mine of while doing a show so there is nothing running in the back ground. Providing it is not running it will not use any resources.

I think that even in the background those little questions can pop up and make some audio beeps once in a while, can't they.

I use SpyWare Doctor, you can completely disable it without uninstalling it. don't get any pop ups then.

I see. I wish McAfee was like that but I don't think it is.

I know it has been reported that a few people have had problems with AVG and Hoster, but mostly on under powered or too little memory machines.
I use Symantec and have never had it interfere with Hoster. I don't schedule any scans and don't allow any automatic scans on my computers. Symantec does use a real-time scan that checks any new files added to the computer. I get one reminder message that I can tell to not pop-up until next update, but this only tells me when my definitions are over 30 days old.
I have never used McAfee so not sure how theirs functions. I would check all the options and see if there is some way to cut down on all the update questions.
Beavis I too would never recommend running without an Anti-virus program available and as up to date as possible. Consider this, someone brings in a burned copy of their own CD and their computer has a virus. Your computer if not equipped with an anti-virus program and you just got infected. It doesn't pay to play unprotected. You have been very lucky..... so far.
All of my computers go on line for updates at least once a month and I have never had any problems with running shows.

all my pc's inc. my laptops (8 total ) have Mcafee and i never had problems in any of them, 2 of my laptops has no problem running with Mcafee, i download music from itunes a lot and i have to be online to do it, better safe than sorry

Byant , how do you like your mini laptop, what kind? i bought one too , i got asus eee pc, and i love it, are you running hoster on it, i just use mine for djing..

I got the Acer 150 gB HD, yup, have tried Hoster 4.06 along with VDJ5.2.1 and runs fine. Plays videos too.

The words are dam small though, aren't they, especially on VDJ screens.

wished i had gotten the acer, but Bestbuy didnt have them, so i ended up with asus eee pc with 120 gb, thinking about cloning it with a bigger drive, ( 250 gb) so i can load all my itunes music in it,instead of using my ipod.. i'll will just use mine for strictly djing..

bryant, my McAfee is running all the time like yours. And man...i cannot find a way to shut it off. Of course i would not go online unprotected, that goes without saying. But my point is, i don't go online. And as i mentioned before, i don't update my OS. And i am not sure if you could get a virus from someones disc, i've never heard of it before. Well i guess i will keep it on my laptop. I just can't see using the extra memory it takes for no reason. But if you guys say keep it, i shall.... Thanks for everyones input. I have learned more on this forum the short time i've been here, then i thought possible. You guys are great, and thank you all for your patience with this old geezer. George

How do you completely disable Macafee so the popups about updating and "you're not safe", blah, blah, blah, don't come up any more.

i havent seen any pop ups on mine, when running hoster, the only time i see a pop up is when i'm online and i used get this " Update for this program has been updated " i just click on that little box " dont show this msg. again" or something like that..if your talking about that little pop up by the icon it doesnt bother me, i can just click on that (x) box as fast as that pop up does

I use Avast Antivirus (Just like Dale has Symantec set up.) and have never had a problems with it interfearing with Hoster in any way. As a matter of fact, I leave it running in the background during my shows even though I'm not online. Too lazy to click on "Stop On-Access Protection".

Avast Antivirus is free for home use.

I Have Windowe Live One Care anti virus never had a problem useing hoster or itunes software
