Ooh! You're stompin' on my heart now! Karaoke does not live by Meatloaf alone! I figure that half my crowd hasn't or doesn't want to know what "Sublime" music they are missing! Old disks? or Old Music? If you are a newbie that hasn't built a cdg collection over the past two decades, or had to carry around the discs that matched the songlists ( before scdgs ), and can remember fast forwarding or rewinding the cassettes to the correct selection, because you couldn't afford the laser discs... well yeah, they are old discs and most were not handled with care, and ain't it nice that Hoster is forgiving when it comes to duplicating the music and not the scratches?

Old music? Some of my Mexican clientele are singing songs written 75 to 100 years ago, because it's part of their heritage, being of a proud race ( La Raza ), and most don't need the lyrics because they memorized them from hearing their grandparents & parents sing the same songs as they were growing up!

So don't paint yourself into a corner, be very diversified, and enjoy making money in a pleasurable business, that puts a smile on the faces of the masses, that we are allowed to perform for, and be entertained by!!!

That's how I figure it...

My dear, my comment was meant in a light hearted way. i am far from being a newbie at karaoke. I have over 10,000 songs in my library. I was doing karaoke in corner bars, when all we had were cassettes and printed lyrics. Ihave been a musician playing all types of music for going on 40 years. My first job as a musician was at a "Critter Club" when i was 15 years old. I dare say 75% of my patrons are "Older" singers, who sing songs that are at least 15 years old. My comment went to the need of that type of disc, not that type of music. Hope this clears it up. I could afford the laser disc, they just wern't on the market yet. And my song library will fit into almost any venue. "So don't paint yourself into a corner, be very diversified". I help build "the corners".

Now it was light hearted, when I started my reply to your post also... and please don't take my reply in the wrong way...tongue in cheek, I was pointing a little jab at a few of the newer KJ's that may be reading our commentary, and unlike most of us old timers to the business, that have been there and done that... are taking for granted the ordeal and painstaking effort ( and Expense ) that it took to build a 10,000 song inventory, prior to scdgs, and pirated hard drives on E-Bay!

I applaud you, and all like you... that I also like to consider as Professional KJ's and DJ's. May you prosper...

Thanks so very much Rikki Tikki, i value your opinions and have read many of your informative post in this forum and the karaoke forum. I consider you a professional at your trade. And i consider myself very fortunate that i can learn this ever changing, technical aspect of the business of karaoke, from knowledgeable people like yourself. I am new to the "Computer" side of show software. So i am looking to wonderful people like yourself, who give a helping hand to new people learning this side of the trade. I look forward to reading all your post, and learning from your experience with Hoster software. i remember those good old days, cassettes where you have to count the beat to be able to know when to start singing , and i had to carry a heavy book binder for all the music sheets..and lazer disc had to logged in those disc and the player

You are so right. We had a music stand that we would put the song lyrics on. Trouble was, back in those days, the patrons would get pie~eyed, drop the sheets, or too wasted to read the lyrics. It was a bundle of laughs. Needless to say, we never had a lot of singers. Like you stated, they had no idea when to start singing. It is so different today. When American Accompliment went out of the cassette tape karaoke business. I recall the general manager telling me how laser and CDGs would never survive. I bought all of his remaining stock. I purchased one of the early Microstudio and Karaoke Home Producer software. And i wrote many hours writing CDGs to those old cassettes. Got a treasure of music from those old cassettes. Some of my patrons when i tell them, that they are singing to a disc that came from a cassette, they are amazed. Some of the guys from the early American Accompliment outfit, went and help form Chartbuster. A few of them are still at chartbuster today.

like you i have boxes of karaoke tapes, i just don't have the time to do what you did, nor i have the software to do it..

I salute you for taking the time to convert your old cassettes. That's something I wanted to do also, but never had the time. I know I have songs that I still have not seen come out on CD. I have a library of over 100 cassettes that I sang with & created books full of pages with all the songs.

I remember those days also! And how about having to fast forward & reverse to find the song you were looking for. And changing the key actually speeded up or slowed down the tape I never got lasers - too heavy for me! I did rent a laser machine & disks once and hooked it up to my VCR. Probably wasn't legal, but I never thought of that then. I just put kids songs on the tapes so I could entertain at kids' parties. That way all I had to do was to pop into their VCR and the kids could sing along and learn to read at the same time.
