i used a single 1/8 cable to 1/4 trs cable, tried using a single 1/8 to a rca cable to a y 1/4 mono adaptor plugged into a single channel, didnt work either..

Billy is that a stereo 1/8" plug? If not that may be your problem. Your computer output is stereo which requires a TRS 1/8 to a TRS 1/4 to get the 2 channels to the mixer.

No wonder you had a problem since you were combining both channels. It is hard to stop the vocals that way.

That happens sometimes to me in the past, the tolerance between the two (machine and cable) just quite isbn't right on one and lucky to be on the other. I'd throw the cable away.
