Exclamation 4.06 Beta 1 Problem With Vista

The pause and resume button is not working correctly.
When clicking pause the audio stops but the graphics and lyrics keep going.

James please also post whether you are using XP or Vista. This helps them determine where the problem is in the code.

Exclamation Ran my show with 4.06 B1 tonight

Hi just posting my experience with 4.06 B1 at my show tonight.
There were a couple of problems
The audio stuttering problem is still present but less frequent
Three times during my show tonight the audio slowed down and stuttered.
This occured while I was either searching for a song or adding an audio file to the playlist while a karaoke or audio song was already playing.

Twice during the night I had the window pop up saying hoster has stopped working and the application will be closed at which point I had to restart Hoster but lost my playlist content and had to re-enter it

Also a couple of times when a singer had picked the wrong version of a song that they wanted to sing I proceded to hit stop and add the correct version but when hitting the stop button the button went from red to greyed out and the song kept playing and the only way to stop it was to close and re-open Hoster
One very good thing was that the lyrics stayed in sync the entire night!!!!!!!!:
I had informed all of the singers at the beginning of the night that I was using a beta version and they gave me there full support and ask me to let all of the staff at MTU know that they appreciate all of the hard work they are doing to solve these problems with Vista

James, how big is your C:\ drive and how much free space does it have? I know you have enough memory but hard drive work space can also effect those things. Search and importing are the most memory intensive things you can do in Hoster especially when playing at the same time. If the drive is heavily fragmented or has limited free space to work in, then things like those will slow things down.
It is kind of like trying to listen to streaming audio over a modem connection.

Exclamation C Drive

My c drive is 150gb and has been defragmented
I still have 100gb free of the 150gb
I also have a 2nd internal hard drive of 150gb which I have even tried to allocate most of the 150gb space to virtual memory but this has had no effect on the problem either
this problem does not occur when using versions 3.4 or 4.03
I have also tried setting my virtual memory on the c drive higher as well with no effect on the audio stuttering.

Just a funny note to pass along about the support of my singers:
When I was playing The "Cupid Shuffle" about half way through I was searching for another audio file to play and the stuttering and slow down ocurred and without missing a beat the 37 singers on the dance floor went into slow motion and finished the line dance.

Iguess the hard drive isn't the problem. Just for information how many songs do you have in your database? This could be a factor.
That's funny. I don't think any of mine are that coordinated to pull something like that off.

Smile Database

I have 62,000 kma files and 4,200 DJ Audio files on an external seagate 1TB drive
I'm going to try using my 400 firewall cord instead of the 2.0 usb cord to see if that makes a difference
my external drive has a e-sata connection as well but i don't have a port on my computer for that high speed connection

Yep i wish a would have had a camcorder to record it
I've been in the same club on Sat nights for 14 years with the same following for over 10 years. Its just 1 big family now and some people have sang the same 4 songs for 10 years every week

Just curious as to why there's a beta report in the Help Forum?

This also happens when using XP with 4.05. The first time it happened I closed and re-opened Hoster, later found that the hitting the skip button , skips the song. When you play the next song the stop button will be OK.
This may work of Vista as well. ( I have not been able to determine the sequence of events that cause this, but it happens often.)

Great find! We verified this and are working on it now.

MTUSUPPORT has been playing for over 6 hours now without any audio drop. He has 16,000+ in his Songs.mdb, and has searched on "*" wildcard so all 16K were found, clicked a song and Add Track, clicked a song, selected "Bryan" singer clicked and "S+". So far, no audio drops even, much less stuttering. This is a P4 3GHz Vista 64 system with all our recommended changes made, including "Aero theme" disabled (Vista Home "anything" doesn't have this to our knowledge, only V64 and V-Business). It has been perfect.

Sync all night... Great news!!!!! We also remained in sync for 6 hours today. When we tested the Pause button, it did stop the audio and the lyrics continued. Since the lyrics would finish first, the last screen remained displayed until the audio finished. The next song to play was fine.

We have not been able to address this yet. If you can tell us:

1. What type of KMA file (HDCDG, CDCDG, HDMP3G, etc.) that was playing when it crashed?

2. Any other facts you can to help us re-create the crash?

Thanks Laddie! That Skip tip may give us a lead on finding this problem.
We'll look into the Stop failing. Again, if there is any other facts you can tell us to help us re-create it, this speeds up our finding something real. As you can imagine, if we don't "find something", we don't know for sure it is fixed.

Awesome... and Terrible! I'm sorry we are putting you in this position with your friends/customers. Please tell them "The President of MTU sends his thanks to them, and that their "allowing" you to test on them is finding some bugs for us."

Exclamation Audio Stuttering is my main concern now

Thank you guys again for all your hard work (and I am sure tons of hours) in addressing these problems expecially in Vista

The sync problem being fixed is a major stress reliever

The audio stuttering still concerns me but it seems to be happening randomly
It seems to be hit and miss but its very unsettleing during a show to pray each time you do something such as searching and adding songs that this is not going to happen.

I am wondering if anyone has this problem if there kma files and Dj files are directly on there hard drive instead of an external drive which is what I use

I have a seagate 1TB external and have been using the 2.0 usb cord

I am going to try using the 400 firewall cord to see if this has any effect since it transfers the data faster

I have 62,000 kma's and 4,200 Dj Songs on the drive

I know that in 4.04 and 4.05 the audio stuttering would occur a lot when using the pause and resume button which I use a lot for one of my shows where I do a version of the game show "Don't Forget the Lyrics"

James, I see you in the forum a lot so you may have already seen this, The only time I got a stuttering problem was when I was running Windows Sidebar. Just a thought.

I have experienced the audio problems (Stuttering). I am testing Hoster 4.06in Vista with and without the recommended settings trying to see what would happen in different scenarios. I am still having out of sync problems.

Is the sync problem on your Vista Ultimate system, or your XP?

We still haven't been able to find any thing clearly that could cause this, and anything you can tell us would help.

We expect to get 4.06 Beta 3 out tonight. We think we have solved all problems.

I'll probably post a link here so you folks can come get and test it too.

Consider yourselves warned if you get it, keep in mind it is BETA, not RELEASED. There may be problems, and you may find and hopefully report them.

I am using Vista since it is the machine that is giving me most of the troubles.

The audio problem is present even if I use the recommended Vista settings.

Rob,
I ran my show with Hoster 4.06 beta 4 last night and it did a great job but I'm only one beta tester. The release shouldn't be far off.
