Hey Frances, to answer your original question, you will have to submit a support ticket to reset your reg on the dead computer. Support seems to be gaining ground on the backlog and was pretty quick to respond last week. I got my backup comp out to install 4.x on it from 3.x since I was fairly confident that my main machine is stable enough that I don't have to worry about it. When I pulled the machine out of the storeroom to do the install, I too had a fried motherboard. I submitted a ticket on Friday @ 1pm and figured I would do the install this week. I got a response back @ 3pm resetting my reg.

I am going to install on a Vista laptop for no other reason than to see what all the fuss is about with Hoster and Vista. Maybe I can be of some limited assistance to others who are having trouble.

Fran,
Mark is correct, this is why. The new feature that MTU added to Hoster 4.0X concerning installs, is the ability to remove Hoster 4.0X from one computer and install it on a different computer without MTU's intervension (you have to be online ). Since your machine went south on you (died ), you were not able to uninstall Hoster so MTU will have to reset this manualy on their end.

May be a silly question - but when you un-install, you're usually not on-line, so how does MTU know it was done first? So, if you can install on a different machine without MTU's intervention, as long as you are on-line, then why is a support ticket needed to re-set the registration?

Thanks, I didn't know that. I thought a "crash" & the inability to "uninstall" was the reason it would not be necessary for MTU to intervene, as long as you're on-line when you install on a new machine so that the registration would be tied to it at that time.

God I wonder what this is gonna cost after all is said and done however at least I will be able to use my Dell PC as back up til it comes home I freek when I don't have at least 2 computers up and in running condition, I hate using my cd's but if I had to I would use them crying the whole time til my computers were fixed(I'm a BIG SPOILED BABY BECAUSE OF HOSTER) Show just run smoother. Fixing to Buy 4 more computers at the beginning of the year. I presently have 2 computer systems and 2 cdg systems, My Cdg system I rent out for privite parties with a Dj who I pay.

Sort of, I think.
As long as you can uninstall 4.xx while online, you free up that install to put

A. Back on the same machine after a clean OS install or upgrading components or
B. On a new machine after replacing older or failing hardware with a whole new computer.

This saves support from at least a little of the never-ending task of trying to determine if you really need a reg reset, or are trying to game the system.

Hey Sky,
If your computer "crashes" before you have the opportunity to remove Hoster 4, you will have to contact MTU for a reset.

Mark is correct.

This feature was not added until Hoster 4. Any version before that will require contacing MTU for a reset.

If you unistall Hoster 4 (to move to another computer) without being online, MTU will have no way of knowing you did this and the install on your new computer will fail.

I hope this helps clear things up.
