Whit, to see what SP you have, go to START, MY COMPUTER, and view System Information.......Under the General Tab/System, it will say which SP you have. I had the auto updates on also but only had SP2.

SP3 will eventually pop up as an auto update. It did on mine but I had already set up to do it.
Auto Updates is not everything that you need. Microsoft only sends automatically updates that they deem as critical security updates. With those you get no hardware updates (drivers), no updates for Office if you have it, no .Net Framework updates, no WMP updates, no IE updates, etc. That is why you need to do the Custom Updates from their web site to keep you system running correctly.

auto updates
I'll check today and install sp3 (and let you know what's what). It's my neighbor/friend that actually owns the computer and runs the karoke show...I'm just his "friend that knows a little bit about computers", so I'm trying to help him out.
He took the computer back home yesterday to try and get ready for tonight's show. All of his old cdg programs (about 250 discs) will run from Hoster, and he bought a dual disc, rack-mount player to handle all of his new discs that Hoster won't (yet) let him load. It would be great if sp3 was the issue. In other words, the Hoster 3.321 update went on and conflicted with sp2, causing the problem. Maybe I can run down there before he goes to set up for tonight's show and check the service pack version. To be continued!... Eric (Whit's proxy) ![]() |
