So sorry, I know that I should have started a new thread but I am unable to figure out how to start a new one, so I'll just ask a simple question here. I downloaded Hoster 4.01 demo on laptop with XP and transfered some KMA songs to a new folder on my desktop and liked what I saw. When I tried to do a live key change (both + or -), there was a very distinct lapse in the audio (about 1/2 second or more). Updates are all in order. Will this go away with a full install?

I'm running a Toshiba 1.6g with 1024 memory

Regards and thanks, Dave

There is a lag in the change so you can click the + or - more than once to get to the desired level. That way you don't hear it drop as each change kicks in, just the final one.

To start a new thread go to the forum you want to post one in from main forum page and look at the top of the list. There is a button called "New Thread".

Dale, Thanks for the info on starting a new thread, I just didn't look hard enough. About the live key change lag, it seems a little bit harsh but, I understand the reasoning. I'll just make sure I change it before it plays or, after play has started, I'll change it with the mixer.

Regards to all, Dave

Dave,

I brought the key change "on the fly" issue to MTU's attention and in one of the beta versions, they made it so there was a delay before the key changes so we could say click the + button three time and we would only hear one change which was great, but it caused problems eleswhere in the program and they set it up like it is now. Once they get Hoster 4 stable for Vista I'll suggest they try this again. Like you, I miss being able to make any key change "on the fly" hearing only one change.

It's a trade of and I'm with you on this one. I don't do it much but when a singer is in over his head, it's already rough and hearing the steps change doesn't help matters.

If you can, type the key change in key column of the playlist before the song starts playing. This way you don't have to wait for the track to start running before you can change the key. Also the singer database saves a key setting for each song.

Jim, thanks for your input. I understand the reason for the audio delay, but like you I'll be missing the instant key change feature and I will be using the key change feature on my mixer. Using the mixer will stop any audio delay and stop the confusion it will certainly cause.

When you said "the singer database saves a key setting for each song", did you mean that the singers database will remember the key change that was made after the song has started (I still have the demo version), or do you have to edit the database to include the new (on the fly) key change. The best way to do it is to set up any key changes before the song has started, but this would be impossible if you use any imported songs from the hard drive.

Regards, Dave

When you add a song to the singer databse, you can set the key change and it will be saved with the song info in the singer database.

You can also change the key setting of a saved song in the singer database.

This should work in the demo, don't know myself. I'm too busy working with the latest beta releases to try the demo.

In order for the Singers Database to remember the key change you have to add it with the top row Key Change when you add it to the playlist and save it to the database. It will not save it if you set it after the song starts or change it in the playlist. Also there is no way to edit the database, so the only way you can add it later is to delete the song for that singer and re-add it with the key change.
