That's what was suggested by Admin. before they even released 4.0. And now there is 4.01 to fix an error some people are having.

You can run it with SP2, but you will get errors with it, so update to SP3. Microsoft would not release it if it wasn't necessary.

Try it and see. Those running SP2 were getting various problems, from lyrics out of sync, to bad audio, to lock-ups.
And if you are only running SP1 I have no idea what kind of problems you will run into.

i've been reading some of the threads since 4.0 came out, and even with the updates people did (custom/express )they're still having problems with locked up, out of sync, audio, video, etc. they end up reverting back to 3.4 , so i was thinking if updating to sp3 will make any difference, and if i understand it right sp3 deals mostly with microsoft / windows securities, don't get me wrong , i like what i saw on the demo, and i wanna upgrade from 3.317 to 4.0, i just wanna be sure that if will work for me , price of upgrade doesn't bother me , show quality is what's important to , having good quality and reliable show brings more people to my show..

Billyo, you do what ever you want. All I know is after upgrading to SP3 the beta testers who previously didn't have it installed did cure a lot of problems. Those of us who already had it installed didn't see those kinds of problems. Draw your own conclusion.

I hear where you're comin' from. I tend to hold my breath when doing updates.
This is one of things where there's no way to know untill you do it. I'm one of those that had some problems clear up after installing sp3. Sam |

i know..i did the sp3 update a while back, my laptop got the dreaded blue screen after i re started , i ended up replacing my hhd and i had to start from the beginning, had to re-install everything..my music collections and my other dj softwares in which same as mtu had to email them to sent me a lic. code, and also had to bother mtu to re-set my registration..but anyway i guessed i'm stucked with 3.317 which is fine with me..and also if i upgrade to 4.0 and wont work, and i also read that i could use 3.4 if 4.0 wont work, 3.4 is also the same program as the 4.0 ,then i'm out of luck.. i'm not sure if i could go back and re-install 3.317 Last edited by billyo; July 19th, 2008 at 09:50 PM. |

![]() Ok.......................what is SP3, and how do you go about upgrading to it? I'm a musician, KJ/DJ. I am not the most qualified computer wiz......not at all, in fact. Sam said he held his breath when doing upgrades, I hold my breath, cross my fingers, cross my legs and toes, and...pray when I do them. Is SP3 listed as a Microsoft update????? Daryl.

More specifically, it's Windows Update. You can usually find it under "Start". Also, under "Tool's" on the Internet Explorer bar. It's not as scarey as some people make it sound. If a computer crashes with these kinds of updates, then there is something seriously wrong with the computer. Updates don't cause crashes all by themself.

Make sure you have your auto updates installation off. You can have the auto update feature off too if you want, so there won't be any changes to your computer. Also, always remember a date that your computer is without a problem following and update installation or adding any software so you could always go back to a restore point. Just do updates if you think you needed it, if everythings seems to be working fine just leave it like that. Remember it is only recommended to have all those updates if needed.

Billyo, 3.4 is not the same as 4.0. It is the same as 3.321 which is better than what you are currently running. It has some fixes in it for zip file problems. 3.4 does not use any of the 4.0 upgrades/addition items. The only difference between 3.4 and 3.321 is that 3.4 is using the 4.0 registration code.
And if I am interpreting all of your posts of late correctly, did you try to go from SP1 to SP3? If so that is probably why it crashed. You would have been missing a whole bunch of updates in between.

The last time I did an update, there was some kind of security update from Windows I really didn't need, downloaded it anyway, from that point on I was getting the blue screen of death. I was very fortunate to locate someone else who had the same thing happen to him/her, and found that it was that that new file and a .dll file in another camera program that was installed years before that conflicted. You couldn't just delete the file either, a whole new patch had to be installed over the old camera program, and I was very lucky to locate that as well. I stayed up three days and three nights on that one, and took a day off from work to boot. So conflicts do happen and you may never know the cause unless you get lucky and spend a lot of time sometimes. That being said, Hoster still requires certain features from the Windows updates to operate properly, so you gotta get 'em regardless.

Been there, done that - that's why I'm reading everyone's Posts carefully before I even install 4.0. I don't have that kind of time (or patience ![]() |

Skybird that was Bryant you quoted....not me
![]() Any way, you can study all the posts and think you know how to solve any problems that come up, decide it is time to load the new program and still come up with some problem that is brand new or one of the solutions that won't work on yours. Computers these days are so diverse and we have so many optional ways we (the users) can change them that it is impossible to say that a program is going to install without problems on all computers. I worked at Lackland AFB in a technical school for a number of years before I retired. We had several thousand computers in the classrooms there. When we would set up a classroom all the computers were the same brand and model with exactly the same hardware configuration. Yet when we would loaded the software there would always be at least a couple that would give us problems and not install correctly. It was like they each took on a separate personality. The only way you are going to know if you have a problem with it is to install it and see. At least MTU listened to us and included the earlier version so you can fall back and use that if something goes wrong. I have just finished a weekend of shows and both nights had to revert to 3.4 sometime during the night.
