DVD to .kma?

I am very interested in getting Nightwish (Finnish metal band) karaoke but the only media I can get them on is DVDs. I haven't read up on MTU H to find out if there is a way to convert...so I ask, is there? I'm dying to get this stuff - it is incredibly great music.

At this point the only ways I'm aware of is to use a DVD ripping program to rip the tracks to individual tracks or connect a DVD player to a computer with a TV card and record the tracks that way.
A DVD ripper will give you better quality than the TV card but sometimes on one or more tracks you'll get an error during the ripping process you won't easily get around without going the TV card route. - not sure why I just know that when I encounter them, no matter what program I use the error comes up at the same spot

Okay, now I'm disappointed. I'm hoping to find some MIDI files and try that, then. Thanks for the info.

PS: Don't know what a TV card is ... ? Probably not the route I need to go anyway - don't want to have to invest a lot of equipment to do this. Will just continue trying to find CDG or MP3G.

Thanks again.

A TV card is basicly a graphics card in reverse. It will allow you to watch TV on your computer or record TV shows or record stuff from a VCR or DVD player. It's a great investment if you've got important memories on a videotape that you want to tranfer to your computer or burn to a DVD.

They cost about $50+ and you can get them internal or usb/external

I see you are in Washington, if you make it to Spokane sometime I could probably rip it for you.

Wow, that's great information to have. Thanks a ton! I'll continue to see if I can scare up the music on CDGs - otherwise I will make the investment as there are other ways I could use this.

Thanks again for the suggestion! If I do get to Spokane, I'll definitely get in touch beforehand.

I use this program to convert dvd to either .dat, .mpg or any video I want and this is what i use to convert dvd karaoke disc. You can select either with vocals or no vocals. Imtoo dvd ripper always works for me and i click video on hoster to play it. It's an easy program to use and I'm sure you'll accomplice something ..

Thanks Swany. I'm hoping to build a good collection. I haven't tried downloading off a site yet so will start with that one.

Need for down loading unless you want they will make up a disk, it is expensive however. I could not find Johnny Cash - Cocaine Blues anywhere in the US but found it there, that is how I came across it. When everything is said and done, you might get a hold of one of the members here that live in the UK and have them get the disk and mail it to you, if you can arrange it. You may save a considerable amount that way. It cost me $32 for 5 tracks.

Swany,If you use a TV card to put your dvds (or I guess you could do laser discs too) onto your computer, can you then pick track numbers on Hoster, or does it all record as one track??

Depends on how you do things

I have a TV Card that I use instead of paying for a DVR cable box.
If you set things up right you can record each track individually or all at once which is probably not what you're looking to do. Its all in the timing. Record first on the computer and then hit play on the DVD or LaserDisc track in the player.
