Wow....I am going to have to check my song out then and see if it is messed up like mentioned....
I was going mostly by the size of the files, I was checking out any that seemed awful large. Then I'd find out the name of the song, and what hoster said the time was.... Guess now I'll go in and find out if these songs are any good or not. I never thought about that!!! But like I said before, after being on disc, and now changing over to Hoster, this is like starting all over again, weeding out the bad, etc... AAAAh!!! Thanks so much for all the help and advise...I'll check these songs out that seem awful long and be sure they are good... Thanks again!!! |

My books only have one title no duplicates and does not have numbers or song source id. I do have more than one on the hard drive, but I have culled a lot of songs off it. Such as multiple copies of the same brand, mm and mm oldies is one for instance. I do consider, THM, SC, and CB to be premier brands though DK versions of some songs are better for me, and some others. I have a sunfly version of Me and Bobby McGee that I sing because it is the Kristofferson version and cannot find that elsewhere. I've had to go to some other sources for hard to find songs like Cocaine Blues by Johnny Cash, went to Xtreme Karaoke in the UK, no American published go figure. So I do have exceptions when I'm culling the hard drive. I am currently running two laptops with 9000 and I'm still culling dupes off them, little over 14000 on my rack mount PCs. If folks are not singing them I don't have them on the laptops, where HD space is a premium as I don't haul an outboard HD with me. I'm running DJ and KJ off the same drive. Found 8 gig for DJ and 59gig for KJ is plenty. My laptops don't use a lot of preloaded programs so they are delteted also. If I don't need it, it's not on it. Small things like who needs 350 cursors? Who needs the full student office 2007, or how many sample pics, videos ect. How about after you delete all media .wav sounds but the low or critical battery warnings what else of PC sounds do you need? I just don't need a sound for the recycle bin emtying.

Duplicate Songs Elimination
Since I am a programmer by day, I've done a bit of manipulating of the MTU Songs Database and have converted that Access database to Microsoft SQL Server.
Like many of you, I have duplicate versions of the same song by the same artist and manufacturer. However, my songbook only lists song titles and artists, no disk numbers or manufacturer names, etc. I've been hosting karaoke shows long enough to know which versions are the better versions and unless a singer asks for a specific brand, I generally play the version I know to be the best. In most cases, that will either be CB, SC or DK but there are occasions when the not-so-popular brands do in fact have a better version that I personally like to sing, e.g. I personally prefer Why Me Lord - Kris Kristofferson by All Hits Karaoke much better than the CB version. After I import my songs into the Hoster Access database, I immediately migrate it to my SQL Server database and I do all my data manipulation in SQL Server. I wrote several stored procedures to do a variety of things, to include tracking and eliminating duplicates and songs with bad graphics. I wrote a small .NET program that will do the same thing that Hoster 4.0 will do insofar as tagging duplicate songs, but my program also asks if I want to delete the song from the database as well as from disk. For songs with bad graphics or sound, I write the brand/title/artist out to a text file so that I can get try extracting it from the CD again or otherwise obtain a new copy of it. I am not keeping more than one copy of the same brand/song/artist combination on disk. I keep the Hoster Access database synchronized with my SQL Server database using SQL Server Integration Service (SSIS). I hope to eventually get to the point where I have absolutely no duplicate brand/title/artist combination and no songs with bad graphics or sound in my collection. It'll take a while but I'll get there. Good Time Karaoke |

I envy smart people.
Back in the early 80's I got fairly proficient usic BASIC, but then life got me busy with other things for 10 or 15 years and by then I was to behind the times, to old/tired/busy to relearn all this stuff. Now I just watch in fascination as others do it. ![]() Sam |
