I found this on another forum for a program people were having the same problem.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop

I made a mental note of it but it seemed unlikely that I'd be having the exact same problem. Later, I ran Filemon while the installation program hit its error. While reviewing the log, I noticed:

---------------
9302 8:00:07 PM set4D.tmp:3468 QUERY INFORMATION C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop NOT FOUND Attributes: Error
---------------

I went to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users and sure enough, there was no folder called Desktop. So, with no confidence whatsoever that it would solve my problem, I created one.

I ran the installation again and VOILA! It worked! I can't believe the whole installation program shuts down just because it can't find that silly folder.
The short answer (hopefully) is to check C:\Documents and Settings\All Users and see if you have a folder called Desktop and create if not. If this isn't it there may be other possible solutions if you Yahoo the message (leave out "Hoster").

As to the other question: 3.317 and beyond requires being online to upgrade or install.

Hope this helps

Sam, that doesn't make sense. If the common Desktop isn't under All Users in Vista, then where the heck would they hide it? It isn't even considered to be a System Folder so it isn't hidden. I love Microsoft....it is so much fun!!

This was a fix that worked for a number of people on another forum.

On another forum there was a similiar fix but in that case the desktop folder existed but permissions were inadequate to add an icon. Even having administrator rights was not a garentee they had permissions. This makes some sense since the error message specificly refers to "access denied" which is what you get when you try to get into a folder your not supposed to.
Evrything I came accross was XP so maybe Vista is something totally different.

Just trying to make an educated guess (without the education )

If you typed in any folders for Hoster, and misspelled it.
That may be part of problem.

After thinking about this a bit.

I'm thinking since the executable file is having the access denied problem, perhaps it's related to the c:/program files.../Hoster folder. Maybe a permissions issue with this folder.

Somewhere on here, I read instructions from Admin. about putting Hoster on Vista.
I have 3.317 on my Vista and is installed into Program Files, but as I understand it, if I upgrade to 3.321, then I have to move all my files & install Hoster into C:\

If you don't move them then you would risk losing them. The location of those files under the Program Files and Documents and Settings was the main problem with Vista causing the loss.

Yes I understand that from reading what Admin posted.
I was simply responding to "Mindonstrike" so he could see where the problem lies.

From everything I've read in the posts, I'm wondering if I should just stick with 3.317 until 4.0 comes out.

And then, will 4.0 be more compatible with Vista?
or will Admin still recommend that we NOT use Hoster on Vista?
