trouble with hoster and laptop
Can anyone please advise me on how to fix my problem?
I only get clicks for audio and no words on my screen when using my laptop. Hoster works fine on my desktop. I would appreciate any help I can get. I am just starting but can't seem to get past this point so I can start playing small venues. Thanks for any help. Dolly, Karaoke Kween |

Dolly,
For anyone to offer you help you are going to have to supply more information than that. What kind of laptop and what operating system? What version of Hoster? Without this we have no way of knowing what to tell you to look for or try.

I have an Acer Aspire 5570-2067. Intel Pentium dual core processor T2080 (1.73 GHz; 533 MHz FSB, 1 MB L 2 cache), Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, 160 GB HDD. I have Hoster 3.316. I hope this is enough information.
Thanks for responding. |

Not quite. Which operating system...XP or Vista?
By no graphics on the screen are you meaning on an external screen (TV) or the laptop's screen? For the audio, make sure all your volume controls like WAV, CD, etc are up (Mic and Line-in should be muted). Be sure you have the latest drivers for your video and audio cards. You should be able to find updates at Acer. Be sure you have all of the updates from Microsoft. Use the Custom update and get all of them as the Express or Auto update will only install what Microsoft deems as "critical"

sorry to be such a pest
I have Vista. I can see the program but no words for the songs show up on the little screen in hoster. Does that make sense?
I will go to Acer and Microsoft and get all upgrades. |

What type of files are you trying to play? i.e. Are you using kma files or are you trying to play from a disc? If kma, are these kma files you ripped on your laptop or desktop? I do know some laptop cd drives will not work importing karaoke... mine is this way. I have to have a separate external burner in order to import on my laptop. This is why I do all of my importing on my desktop to an external hard drive, which I then connect to my laptop.

Thanks for the reply
I copied my songs to an external drive from my desktop. When that didn't work, I tried copying them directly on to my laptop. I am still unsuccessful getting them to play.
I uninstalled the program and reinstalled but that didn't help either. I am about to loose my cool with this whole thing. I was so looking forward to start playing small venues but I don't guess it's meant to be. Thank you again for you reply. |

I may be way off base. If so I apologize in advance. Have you went to the Tools Menu in Hoster and selected build songs database and made sure you selected the correct songs folder?

tools and build
Yes, I have tried that too. I even took my laptop to the Geek squad but I think I know more than they did and that's not saying a lot. LOL.
I just went through the audio control panels. I couldn't find the .wav and other ext that was mentioned in the other reply. I have vista so I am in a learning mode with it. Again, thanks for the reply. I so want to get this going. |

After clicking Start/settings/control panel click the speaker icon which will open the "sound" panel, then select "speakers" from the playback tab, then click "properties" which will open a new panel called "speaker properties", click the levels tab then just make sure the slider is at 100%, make sure the button next to 100 isn't muted (like the button right below it), click balance to make sure that both left and right are at max.Click OK on the balance panel. Click "apply" and "OK" on the "speaker properties" panel. Click "apply" and "OK" on the "sound" panel. And you should be done. Hope it helps. Sam

I know this is a pretty basic question but I don't think we have yet established the answer.
Does your audio and video graphics work OK in any other progs on your Vista laptop? If so what progs? MikeP |

Another question.
Is your desktop also running Vista? It might be useful to know what's different (or the same) about your 2 systems. MikeP |

This is a very strange problem. Are you logged in as administrator on the machine? How much ram does it have? Does your Graphics Video card have 32MB or more of RAM and support Direct-X 9.0 or higher? Just some things to look at. I may be off base as usual. The graphics card info is a requirement to run hoster. I am no expert, but I believe direct-x has control of both audio and video, so if it is the wrong version it might be the culprit. Again, I could be wrong, but I would check to see which version is on the laptop. It seems like it should be 9.0 or greater with vista.

can you hook that external drive up to your desktop and have hoster play from it. (Make sure you change the path so hoster plays from external drive only)
and see if those files play. could you tell us what is the size of one of the files,
