I agree with you. I don't think they are any better that any other ones. I think around here a few KJ's had lots of DK and that is what they are used to.

I can't figure out why anyone would think they were that great. The company is from Hongkong. I would suspect the licenses for those since they are notorious for producing knock-offs or copies of other peoples work without a license.

Could very well be that's what they cut their karaoke teeth on.
When I started, Pioneer lasers were the primary disc (seemed to be a west coast thing) & DK seemed to dominate the eastern side. When I finally heard of DK, I thought their music was complete garbage, but those who started with them thought the same of the Pioneer. You get used to what you hear first. I have some older absolute crap versions of some songs (weren't ever out on other brands at that time) but they got sang. When I got very good versions, I tried to replace, the die hards that learned on the old version still request THAT version over the obviously better version. ![]()

![]() If I'm not mistaken I think DK is the one that has a synthesized melody line of the lead vocal. It's kind of faint but it's there and some people might like having that there to guide them when they forget how the song goes.

I prefer Sound Choice myself. I do have about 35 DK in my selection. But I use them second to Sound Choice.

DK Discs
In the midwest they're the Holy Grail! Better singers will have all their songs numbers memorized. I set my song books up with their discs 1-99 first because of that. Before I found a new set (1-99), I looked at a used set 1-85, they wanted $4,000.00. In this area if you don't have them you'll get all kinds of complaints.

I have DK Karaoke discs numbers 2001 through 2035 and a few others of the DK series. I have had them for about 12 years now. Several of them are scratched and need replacing. DK Karaoke does not have a return policy on them so you have to pay full price for them, if you can find them. Sound Choice, Chartbuster, Pop Hits Monthly (Stellar Records), and some others will replace them for $5.95 each to cover shipping. I do not plan to try to replace my DK Karaoke. I will continue to support the companies who are willing to work with us.

That & the fact that DK has been out of business for quite sometime now. They supposedly sold their rights to Song Factory which started to re-release the older DK labels under their name. So yes I imagine DK doesn't have a very good return/exchange policy

I didn't know they had gone out of business. Karaoke.com helped me out to get a few of the ones I had that were scratched. I didn't know that Song Factory had taken them over. That is interesting.

They quit karaoke around 2000 or so. i know I bought a couple of the older Applause & Premier 'DK' discs a couple years back through K.com & they came, but they were packages with Song Factory labels both in the jewel case & the printing on the disc, different disc number & their own graphics - but was the same DK listed disc otherwise, music & lyric swipes.

The big thing I get out of DK is some of their songs, I will use and example that I sing. DK030 trk 4, the Animals, House Of The Rising Sun. I've got a low Johnny Cash style voice and do sing him a lot. Not on DK, but the above mentioned track I can sing on DK I cannot even begin to want to sing any other brand with that song. In my area few people have any DK discs that they use in their shows. Since I've went with Hoster, I've included all of mine. Which modestly is only 254 tracks. I do use them when I get a husky voiced lady wanting to sing say Me & Bobby McGee, it has gotten complaints but also it has gotten "What brand is that I like it better, and where can I get that disc?" I do like the ablility to make an instant choice (Thank you Hoster), and usually tell the singer that I'm doing it and if they don't like the version I switch them to another one. Mostly being right about the statement, "That's what they are used to" I gave a lady Folsum Prison Blues, on chartbusters I know where she normally sings they have a 18000 song preloaded CAVS and that song is Sweet Georgia Brown, she complained about the track not liking it, I asked her if she would like to sing the other version right then she said yes. That pleased her and her friends then told her the first one was much better. So what to do? Me I'll give her SGB when she wants it again, unless she agrees with her friends. But the difference in each version of that song, since the Walk The Line Movie came out and made a bunch of people Johnny Cash fans, is incredible. I have it on SC, SGB, SAVA, CB, MM & DK. Some songs DK all the way. I like them and would buy the whole shebang if given the chance.
